High Temperature for 5 Days, not sure why. Any experiences?

My 3 year old has had a temp since Monday morning ranging between 38 & 39c but mostly in the 38s. She was really off it Monday-Weds and needed Calpol/ibuprofen to make her somewhat her normal self but has managed yesterday and today without. Saw a prescribing paramedic at the GP surgery Tuesday who said viral but take in a urine sample just in case which results came back negative.
I took her back to GP yesterday as in the morning her temp had gone down but returned mid morning / noon and she had developed several ulcers in her mouth and what looks like between her teeth on her gums too, she’s complaining about them and says it hurts to eat. GP said her glands were up on her neck and throat looked red but that was about it. Said it could be viral, could be bacterial he wasn’t 100% but he prescribed antibiotics. Think he was thinking hand foot & mouth because he checked her hands and asked me if I’d noticed any blisters on her feet but because there wasn’t he wasn’t 100% sure it was viral with the temp lasting so long.
This morning her temp had come down again to the 37’s but as the day has gone on it’s crept back up to 38’s again so I’ve started her on the antibiotics.
Does anyone have any experience of the same thing or could give me any words of wisdom? I struggle with health anxiety and am really thinking the worst, she’s never been this ill before, usually better after a couple of days.
What makes me think it’s not viral is the temp lasting so long and no one else in the house has caught anything but I’m not sure…

My daughter has had long temps before. Doctor said to bring her back if it goes on over a week - but even then they just monitored. 5 days is not that long. Temp is lowest overnight/ morning and always increases over the day. Late afternoon/ early evening is usually high point.

As long as she’s not presenting as very ill she sounds to me like she’ll be back to normal soon

@Snatherwang Thank you for your reply that’s really reassuring :) that’s interesting about the temperatures as it was the highest it’s been today at 38.4 before bed but that obviously now makes sense. She has been slightly off it again today but then 30 minutes later she’s running around like there’s nothing wrong so she’s not too bad, just tiring easily I think but I suppose that’s to be expected with an infection of some sorts.

You know your child best but if she’s running around then slumping, in a cycle, that sounds like normal childhood virus!

Hope she feels better soon

I know its worrying but it does sound like a virus. 38.4 is not extremely high. I don't usually give calpol under 38.5 unless child is in pain. Temperatures usually reach their peak in the evening.

Thank you both. I went into her in the night because she was upset and she was really sweaty so I’m wondering if it was the fever breaking as she seems to have picked up today fingers crossed and so far we’ve had consistent temps of no more than 37.3 so I’m hoping we’re through the worst :) this time yesterday she was over 38.
she’s my first so everything she goes through I’m going through with her lol! Hoping as she gets a bit older and gets more bugs I’ll be less anxious x
