Bad breath 1.5 year old

So my nearly one and a half year old has had bad breath in the mornings and during the night for a few months now. We always manage to brush her teeth and the smell seems to come from her throat. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?
We have visited the GP a couple of times since it started and both times have been told her throat is a bit inflamed but nothing too much, I’m sure it’s not normal for a young toddler to have smelly breath?

Id probably book an appointment with a paediatric dentist, that can be more their area of expertise than the dr. Plus doesn’t hurt to get them used to seeing the dentist early.

Mine did, teeth were always fine, I think it’s the tonsils/throat. Especially as their mouths are drier at night so an issue in the mornings.

Gargling with mouthwash sorted it out for us but not easy to get them to do it at that age.

Thanks, the dentist is a tricky one. We have been looking for a paediatric dentist for our three year old but live in France near the Swiss border- its so difficult to get on the books for any medical care as all the doctors/ dentists would rather work across the border for money.
I am thinking it’s more throat though, I’m going ask specifically next time for the doctor to check if her tonsils/ adenoids are bigger than expected for someone her size.
She suffers from a lot of ear pain so I am wondering if it’s all related.

Reflux? Nasal infection? Hungry?

Downbadatthegym · 10/01/2025 12:41

Not a reflux smell I think, more when someone has a sore throat/ mouth infection smell but she has had it constantly for months to varying degrees. She is regularly ill with something as she started Crèche in the autumn and of course often teething.
It happens quite soon after going to bed sometimes so I don’t think she’s hungry and she will ask for bottle if she is wanting a drink in the night.
