Natural cream for excema

My DD who is 1 has flare ups of excema on the backs of her legs (see photo) and I'd really like to help her with a natural cream as the the GP prescribed emollient isn't helping at all and I'm trying to stop it getting to the point of her breaking the skin again and needing steroid cream. She's the first of my children to have excema so this is all new to me but she's been waking in the night the last couple of nights scratching at her legs.

Would be very grateful for any natural creams/oils that you could recommend. Thank you 😊

Just seen my phone has changed the spelling and it should read Eczema!

Dream Cream from Lush is good

The prescribed emollients are so thick and greasy. The used to inflame my skin rather than help.

Aveeno skin relief is absolutely brilliant. I'm not sure if it's safe for young children so it's worth checking. Also though their baby cream is very very good (the one with the dark blue cap rather than the thinner lotion).

As well as moisturising my skin effectively it really does seem to have improved the condition of my skin overall

Second Aveeno. Both my children (who are now adults) had awful, bleeding eczema and Aveeno cleared it right up. Also I used to import the Oat bath sachets sold in the US but I think they sell them here now.

I tried EVERYTHING. It's actually how I found Mumsnet! I went through, one by one all of the recommended solutions and it was obvious, different things work for different children.

Aveeno did nothing for me. Don’t wait for the skin to “break” to use steroids. I would be using hydrocortisone at the stage in the picture. Then emollients to help avoid it getting like that.

Random but Sam Faiers instagram has a highlights reel of her natural ways to heal Eszchma. My son had a small patch on his face and we found cutting down his dairy intake helped. But she has some good tips on her page.

Moo goo is great.

Missingthesea · 07/01/2025 23:05

I recommend MooGoo Natural Sensitive Skin Balm. It's licenced for treating eczema in Australia but not yet here, but if you visit the MooGoo UK website you can buy it from them online, or they have a list of UK stockists.
I came across it quite by accident some years ago when on holiday in Cornwall!

I recommend drought secret! The calming butter and zinc magic.

It's the only thing that has worked for me and my son. It is around £20 a pot, although small last ages! We use the calming butter generously then a little of the zinc magic on top of the calming butter, and flare ups are usually gone within 3 days

My dd uses honey and oats on her eczema , she's a teenager and I imagine she saw it on TikTok. However she says it's 'like magic'.
