2 year old red dry heel

Hiii, my little girl has got a dry red patch on her heel, she doesn’t seem overly bothered by it but I did message the doctors who told me to just ask the pharmacy, which I did. All they said was to moisturise it but it seems under the skin so I’m not sure. I just wanted to come on here to see if anyone else has seen anything like this on their little ones? I think I’ll message the doctors again, I’m not sure if it looks like a potential fungal infection but god knows.

thank you!

I'd bath it daily and moisturise as suggested but I'd also be keeping an eye out for any sign of infection which would be that red patch feeling hot or your DD developing a fever.

Have you given it a really good wash and are you sure it's not actually dye from red socks/shoes/rug that may have got wet and transferred in the wet weather we've had?

Then I'd give some piriton incase it's contact dermatitis and some moisturiser / vaseline and socks on top.

Does she complain about her feet hurting Severs disease affects the heels although DD never had red patches, it isn't as serious as it sounds and they grow out of it, it's just where their feet/legs growth plates grow out of kilter and it can cause inflammation

Is it anywhere else ? Hand foot and mouth ?

Thank you, I have been keeping an eye! My first thought was HFM but she’s got no other symptoms so it’s just this one isolated thing on her body

. Hiya, we have done that but its definitely something that’s just grown and not just dye unfortunately.

She’s been saying “toes, toes” repeatedly at bedtime the last few days but nothing else indicating that it’s annoying or painful. Will look into Severs disease and keep an eye, thank you!

That was my initial thought but luckily no, nothing else anywhere and no fever, etc.

Has it got any bigger?

You don't want it to be cellulitis which is a potentially severe infection. if you run a glass over it does it go white or stay red?

HPandthelastwish · 08/01/2025 07:38

If it's severs it's far more common in very tall children DD was always off the charts for height and at least two + years taller than average for her age.

It’s been about the same for a few days now, and it goes white so no concerns in that way. I hadn’t even thought of cellulitis but a good point to mention to the doctors just in case!

Ahhh okay that’s good to know, DD is a little dinky doo so perhaps not that. Still very strange though!
