Can I put antibiotics in milk?

DS has tonsillitis with a really high temp so we've been given antibiotics for him. The problem is he absolutely will not take them. We've tried holding him tightly, battling through the tears, blowing gently to activate swallowing reflex, a syringe, a spoon and putting on his favourite music/tv.

He has to have two full syringes at a time but he just spits it out, splutters on it and screams so much he can't catch his breath. Getting one dose in would be enough let alone two! It's taken 20 minutes to get about 2ml in and an hour to calm him down, so we've given up. I'm feeling really worried though as I know how important antibiotics are as well as spacing/completing the entire course.

It says not to take the medicine with food, but I wondered if I could add it to his morning milk- he always guzzles his sippy cup?!

I think however you need to get them in is fine whether that's mixing with milk/yoghurt/chocolate spread!

I spoke to my dr about this. She said fine to give with a little bit of food. They'll still work. Is it pen v? It's vile stuff - my DS point blank refuses. How old is your little one?
Clarithromycin is a good alternative, it doesn't taste much better (so bitter) but was only 5ml x 2 a day for my 7 yr old.

We actually didn't even manage this one though as after 2 doses just a tiny taste of it was triggering her gag reflex and I had to get amoxicillin instead. Definitely not as specific as the others, but better than nothing.

Oh. The other thing you could ask for is tablets to crush up and mix in to a yoghurt.

Thank you both! It tastes absolutely dreadful, I did end up mixing it with a small amount of milk and made sure he drank it all. He's 14 months so if I'd have known a tablet existed I definitely would have asked for that to crush up instead- good to know for the future so thanks again!
