Broken alligner

My 12 yo dd has just come in to me and shown me a crack in her clear (like Invisalign alligner). She says it's not her fault, but I'm so cross- she's had it 3 weeks and has at least 6 months of treatment with it, as it's a twin block to correct a severe overbite. To get a replacement is over £1000 which we don't have just lying around. Ever since she had her original retainer 18 months ago there's been nothing but issues with them.

You shouldn't have to be paying for a replacement if you've had it for less than 3 weeks. Phone your provider and request repair or replacement.
I'd have assumed manufacturers fault rather than blame your daughter.

DD broke several of hers and the dentist just made a new one for free. The expense is the measuring and planning, equipment etc etc, the aligner is just a bit of plastic. Are you sure they'll charge you for it??

That's what they said when she had them fitted and there's a sign in the waiting room.

Is that NHS? Ours advertised about £80 for a replacement. However twin blocks are pretty robust so it may be a defect in the mould, in which case they may not charge.

‘Really cross?’ Please say you mean with the fact that it’s flimsy and not with her.

I was cross in that it broke so soon, as we had finally found an appliance that she will wear and not moan about.

My son's retainer cracked - twice. I was really cross too, they seemed so flimsy and thin. It cost £80 each time for a replacement. At the second time I asked if it could be more robust as the fault seemed to be in manufacture, not user error. He's had his current one for a year now and no cracks.

Luckily after getting an emergency appointment today they were really nice and told me because it's not fully broken then it's still ok to wear as it still clips together where the blocks are.
