Does anyone know what this could be?

My son has developed red marks on 2 of his toes. He said he can't remember if he hurt them on something or not. He's had them for a few weeks now. I wouldn't say they're getting worse but they're not getting better either. They're not on any other part of his body either. And I've checked to make sure it's not caused by his shoes.
Will definitely call the gp in the morning as I thought it was strange that they're not healing.
Just wondered if anyone has had anything similar?

That looks like chilblains to me.

TheLurpackYears · 29/12/2024 22:24

Are they itchy and burning? Could they be chillblanes?

happynewyearandallthat · 29/12/2024 22:52

Could you get those just being inside the house? He doesn't like to wear socks much indoors but our house is mostly carpeted. He says they're sore to touch but other than that, he hasn't mentioned them being itchy.
He also hasn't been out in any cold weather recently for longer periods of time

Chilblains. You get them from cold damp air. walking around the house on a cold day with no socks on and then putting his feet on a radiator is a bad idea as it will make it worse. You need to slowly warm your feet up. Try not to itch them. They go away on their own.

Covid can cause this also chilblains

My mum developed chilblains recently which seemed nuts since she never goes barefoot, always has warm feet and has her heating on constantly.

Looks like chilblains to me. I used to suffer from them as a child. My circulation isn't great, I feel the cold. It was usually due to my feet getting cold, and then, me warming them by the fire!! They can be sore and painful.

My son got exactly this two years ago - it was after he had Covid but also it was during a very cold snap - we never knew if it was 'Covid toe' or chillblains.

Anyway it cleared up on its own after a couple of weeks.

Now I'm hypervigilant about keeping his feet warm in our drafty house!

Yes I think this is one of the lesser known symptoms of covid , particularly known in children although I've had this both times I've had covid. In the early covid days I worked in pre school and lots of children complaining about sore feet and no other symptoms.
