Illness over Christmas - toddler quieter

My little boy (2 years and 10 months) became ill Christmas Eve. He was at first just irritable but then Christmas Day didn’t want to do anything no opening presents or getting involved when normally he’s a little whirlwind. Since then he’s had a temperature although this seems to have gone now but he’s been left with a lingering cough which sometimes makes him sick due to the amount of coughing, he’s really not himself and seems down in the dumps. He’s also a lot quieter and hasn’t been talking so much - just

Yes of course. Give him plenty of water and let him rest.

This is totally normal in my experience, my 4 year old is a complete whirlwind and doesn't stay still or stop making noise for even two minutes but we all had a horrendous bug last week and she lay silently on the sofa not moving for three days. Horrible but normal!

Ah bless him, there's a lot of nasty viruses about at the moment, DS was the same at that age- the biggest indicator he was still recovering was he was quiet and actually sat still for more than 5 minutes! Obviously if you have concerns go with your gut and get checked out, but it sounds like a standard reaction to a lingering illness.

All my 2 DS’s wanted to do when they were ill was either sleep or cuddle up on sofa and watch tv, then fall asleep. It’s their bodies way of fighting it off. They rallied a bit after calpol, then just flopped again. Second DS calpol never worked so he had Nurofen, and virtually stayed in vest and pants with lots of cold drinks and any food they could manage.

Thank you everyone ☺️ we’re going to see the doctor this afternoon - it’s horrible seeing them ill isn’t it especially over Christmas! Xx

Hope he feels better soon. Yes my 3 year old is the same. He's usually very bubbly and energetic but he has been unwell this week and very quiet, grumpy and not wanting to join in. It's normal isn't it - we would be the same.

He has tonsillitis and an infection in both ears so no wonder he’s been sad! He had one dose of the antibiotics and my hurricane seemed to be back ☺️☺️

Poor lamb. Glad the antibiotics are working
