Hoping someone can help me. I have a 3 year old who was diagnosed with bronchiectasis about 6 months ago, unsure of the cause but possibly aspiration.

She's had a really rubbish winter with lots of bugs and generally not feeling too great. About 3 weeks ago she was admitted with low oxygen levels and was put on a course or antibiotics for 2 weeks, finished 12 days ago and since Christmas eve has picked up another bug. She's been really poorly since with fevers of 39/40/41 consistently for 5 days now. I've given her paracetemol and nurofen which brings down the temperature for 3 hours max but then creeps up again never really falls below 37.8. She's now on a another course of antibiotics and is on day 3 but really no improvement in how she's feeling.

Given her history should I take her back to a gp/A&E (as its Sunday).

Probably best to phone 111 and let them advise you

Probably an unpopular opinion but if you have a kids a&e you can go to, it might be better. I had a few issues with my kids and there were a lot of misses by GPs as many just don't have the training to deal with younger children, eg an out of hours doctor mocked me for bringing my daughter to get checked saying she just had a cold, whereas days later kids a&e found she had a severe uti which can present with cold like symptoms. It may be the wrong type of antibiotics your toddler is taking, who knows.

If you are worried, take her to A and E. I hope she’s ok.

With temperatures that high, I would
Go to A and E just in case. They're not going to mind.

  1. We've had similar and ended up with steroids.

Go to A and E.
