Recurring urine infection in 5 year old girl

Hi, I am posting this for my SIL.. does anyone have any advice/experience/solutions for this? My niece keeps having UTIs, and of course keeps needing antibiotics. Does anyone know why this could be happening? My SIL has tried stopping her daughter wiping herself after the toilet, and doing it herself in case that is the cause, but it's still happening! Help!!!

Could there be a more serious underlying cause?

I had lots of UTIs when I was a similar age to your niece.Tests showed I had reflux of urine from my bladder back up the ureters to my kidneys . This was due to me having duplex kidneys. It seemed like I was constantly on antibiotics until I was around 8 or 9 years old.I never had any problems during my teenage years or as an adult and I'm now in my 60s

Are they testing the urine?
My daughter had a UTI a couple of weeks ago. She was prescribed antibiotics but had to have a second course as the urine sample showed that her infection didn't respond to the default antibiotic for UTIs.

My daughter also gets infection in her vulva due to poor wiping so we give it a clean in the morning and evening to stop her getting sore and reduces the risk of a UTI. It's quite common in girls of this age according to our GP.

Hi,
I am coming back again. I think my niece has had another 3 or 4 urine infections since I posted this and I'm wondering (and my SIL is too), should she be referred to a urologist? The GP just keeps throwing antibiotics at her.
