Any positive stories in being able to get rid of threadworms after several attempts?

I am at my whits end with threadworms and feel we are just going to have them forever. I’m needing to hear some positive stories from people who have eventually managed to get rid of them who once were struggling

You have to go beyond the recommended medication regime. It's often inadequate. A minimum of six weeks of treatment is necessary but I would recommend two months. You give the meds once every three days for the first three weeks and once a week thereafter. During this time you have to change underwear and pants daily, wash them with the bedding in hot water, plus vacumn. Pay particular attention to the beds and the bathroom. Disinfect the toilet seat and area around the toilet every time they use it. Bathe daily if possible and clean the tub very well after. Everyone in the household probably needs to be treated, because it's likely you'll just be reinfecting each other if you don't treat everyone. It's one hell of a grind but it can be done.
Another thing- don't wear skirts or dresses. It's too easy for any eggs deposited on your backside or in your underpants to fall out. I would also recommend the longer boxer style underwear under your pants so that it's harder for the eggs to slip out.
Also, handwashing, handwashing, handwashing.

The above it totally unnecessary and unrealistic for the normal working parents with multiple kids. Not sure it’s advisable to be giving kids that medication every 3 days!
Take the medication every two weeks but you need to keep repeating this every two weeks at least 4 times. The whole family needs to do this whether they have an itchy bum or not!!
Showering washing the bum and crack fully first thing in the morning.
Handwashing.
tight pants and pj’s rather than nightly. Fold pants and pj’s carefully once off and put in hot wash.
vaccum and change sheets once a week.

I am breastfeeding so taking the medication this often isn’t an option. I change beds every 2 days as daily isn’t doable now with it being winter and having a baby. Bums washed each morning, hands and nails cleaned constantly. Everything washed on 60 degrees. My hands are cut from washing so much.

I couldn’t take the medication every 2 days even if I wanted to as I’m breastfeeding. They have been an issue for so long with no luck in getting rid that I’m seeing no light at the end of the tunnel and I’m thinking will we ever get rid! GP can’t add anything other than they have never known the medication not to work. I’m doing everything in my power cleaning wise. Hands are cut from the washing so much

Can you take the medication whilst BF?

Can you take the medication whilst BF?

Yes. When you look into it it says it’s excreted in such small amounts that’s it’s fine to keep breastfeeding. I took it while pregnant on obstetrics advice

We were demented with my little boy, literally had them every month for over a year, numerous GP visits, meds etc Nothing worked. In desperation we visited a highly recommended homeopath. Had never gone to one before. She got rid of them after one session and a specific remedy. I know loads of people don’t believe in it but we were desperate and it worked

No sorry I wish I did! I am demented. The medication just does not work for us. My next move is to see a homeopath. I’ve read that taking Cina can get rid of them but don’t know of anyone who’s taken it

We’ve taken it multiple times and it just doesn’t work. I spoke to the GP who said there isn’t anything else we can take. They aren’t any help at all. Feel at a total loss

that is just so awful. Cannot believe there’s nothing you can do. How many of you have tjem and how often have you tried ovex? Some people saying u need to take it twice a day for 3 days. Have you tried that?

https://www.nursingtimes.net/gastroenterology/an-action-plan-to-prevent-and-combat-threadworm-infection-21-10-2003/

just found this, it says to wipe the bum every 3 hours during the day to stop the eggs hatching cos some of them go back into the bum - so it’s not just spread from eating the eggs

Thank you I will try that. I do think that’s why we are being reinfected as I can see white speckles on our underwear and that’s even after having a good wash in the shower. Someone suggested it was dry skin from washing so much but I know it’s not that

I know you say ovex doesn’t work. Have you taken it every 2 weeks on the dot for months? All of you, every two weeks?
I had this for years and that eventually worked. Took multiple does every 2 weeks I am going to say over a few months. Two or 3 doses doesn’t work.
Also bun washing with mild soap or shower gel first thing every morning. Regular handwashing.
Ours Did eventually go- helps also when kids have grown up a bit

I’ve only ever taken the 2 doses then a month of 2 later repeated. I might try taking it more regularly, thanks. We currently do the bum and handwashing. My hands are really dry and cut from the amount of washing

Did you manage to get rid of them? I’m in the same boat and don’t know what to do!!
