Swollen lymph nodes in baby’s chest

My 13month was admitted to hospital for iv antibiotics a few weeks ago for extremely high temperatures which turned out to be bacterial tonsillitis. Before being admitted they done a chest X-ray on him which showed some lymph nodes swollen in his chest. He’s due his follow up x ray next week to see if they are still visible and ofcourse Google has told me the C word and I’m terrified! Has anyone else been through this? He’s recovered from the tonsillitis but now has a cold and cough thanks to his older brother. Thank you

Hi OP, I wonder if the bacterial tonsillitis caused the large lymph nodes? Did any medical professional suggest this? I only ask as my DS is renowned for having large lymph nodes anyway, and they can swell up even more when he is unwell. Once, he had a lymph node the size of an egg in his groin because he scratched his knee (the usual size of his lymph node is grape sized anyway!). How is your child otherwise? I really hope all is OK and you get a reassuring scan next week 🌸

They didn’t suggest anything they just said they want a rescan in 4 weeks time. He wouldn’t stay still for the X-ray so they said it was tilted a bit. Ah bless him my niece is the same has large lymph nodes. Thank you

Please try not to worry, they wouldn't wait four weeks if they thought something was seriously wrong.

My mind over takes 😫 Thanks for the reassurance 😀

First things first, most of the time it isn’t cancer. Don’t forget that.

My son is in remission from lymphoma in his bowel. It’s reassuring that they didn’t want to scan again straight away but at the same time, if he is having any other symptoms you are worried about such as the temps come back, night sweats etc then push to get him seen earlier because time is essential if it is anything sinister.

Sorry to hear that your son had lymphoma that is awful! He’s no other symptoms just a cough and cold the same as his older brother thankfully but im keeping a close eye on him. His blood work was also normal on discharge from hospital. If you don’t mind me asking what was your sons symptoms?

His caused a bowel blockage which caused him to have symptoms we thought was just a tummy bug so vomiting, temp, tummy ache etc. He also slept a lot and had night sweats.

You can also check his other lymph nodes to see if there’s any swelling - neck, armpits and groin.

Bless him 😥I’m sure that was a horrific time for you all. Not that I can feel just the usual pea sized ones in his neck. My lb is an awful sleeper day and night. A change in that I would be very worried.
