How long is too long for a child to be vomiting?

DD (8) is 48hrs in with a cough, cold, high temp (although that’s down now) and vomiting. Today she’s managing to keep water down, when she vomits it’s just spit or phlegm, and it’s not as often (was hourly for the first 24hrs). She hasn’t eaten for 2 days. Am I right in thinking to just ride it out unless any signs of dehydration? She was very lethargic yesterday but she's much more alert today, and seems a bit better in herself, just obviously tired and unhappy.

It sounds like she's getting over it. One of my kids' worst illnesses was when he was 7 and got a sick bug that went on for 5 days. He was gradually getting better after the first couple of days but was still sick a couple of times on days 4 and 5.

My DS9 was vomiting severely on Sunday night so I looked up the advice out of curiosity and it said vomiting more than 48 hours is a concern- imagine mainly due to dehydration. You could always ring 111 fir advice.
When my other DS was a baby, he was very sick and the GP sent us to the hospital. They used syringes of fluid to get some liquid inside him.

Call 111 and see what they say always better to be on the safe side and maybe be seen by out of hours.

When my daughter had similar, it got to the point she cldnt keep water down. I ended up being sent to a&e (although it was during Covid and no one was there we got taken straight away) and they transferred her to a children's hospital. I too was worried about dehydration but it was low blood sugar she had. They kept her in all day and gave her things to bring her levels back to normal and we were allowed home.

I'm always now stocked up on Lucozade for when the kids are ill.

Another one on here to mention the low blood sugars as being more of a problem, we have also been in hospital because of that when we had prolonged vomiting bugs. It wouldn't have crossed my mind until it happened - online is all about dehydration, however just having water would stop that but water does not help blood sugars.

Hope they're feeling better soon x
