Worried sick mum. My 2 year old fell ill 2 days after his birthday last week.(Tuesday) Horrific temperature cough no appetite coughing all night long. Wasn't getting better went to doctors got anti biotics for a crackle in his chest. Didn't do anything. Every day getting worse. He can't walk, hasn't talked, sleeping all day and night for the past 3 days. Ended up in a&e yesterday as we were worried sick. Flu was confirmed by swab and chest xray showed infection so he has double antibiotics. When should I see improvement in him I'm so worried 💔 he hasn't been able to eat barely a thing for 7 days either

Bless him, hope he’s feeling better soon.
if he only just turned 2 he wouldn’t get the flu vaccine until next year as the cut off is children who turned 2 by 1 sept this year so don’t beat yourself up about that.

make sure he continues to drink plenty, offer things he likes to eat just little bits but as long as he’s drinking he will get calories from milk and hydration from both milk and water, he will sleep loads it’s just his body getting better but take him back if your worried at all, he is only small ❤️

Thanks for your lovely message I feel better knowing he couldn't have even had the jab yet I always want to protect my children. Will keep doing all those things and wait for his body to recover. He did eat a tiny bit of dinner yesterday so hopefully a good sign

Aw no problem, didn’t want people who clearly have no idea trying to say you didn’t vaccinate him,
eating bits is a great sign, I hope he continues to get better and is back to his usual self very soon, always a worry especially when they are that unwell

People are so quick to judge these days! He's eaten some breakfast this morning and we went for some fresh air im seeing a slight improvement thank goodness

It might not have made any difference with or without the vaccine as it only works on some strains. They do their best guess when they are developing them.

Oh yeah I know, I totally agree. I work in a school and nearly all kids got the nasal spray but several of the youngest ones have had this dose of flu and been off school for a week or more with it. It's a nasty one!

OP this happened to my baby when he was just shy of one year old. It was horrendous. We kept giving him calpol and ibuprofen, trying to get him to drink and holding him. He took about 2 weeks or possibly longer to recover.

That's so scary at such a young age 🥹 yes we've just been topping up with painkillers antibiotics and hoping every day he gets better I think this going to be a while yet until he gets his full strength back poor little things ❤️‍🩹

Any better today? Really hope you're seeing improvements. Just know how miserable it was so am thinking of you!

@mummyl2013 so glad that you managed to get some breakfast into him yesterday. Is he any better today? Flowers

Hiya! Thanks for checking in, we've finally turned. Corner. Today he woke up and he's been playing talking even looking for snacks. It's so nice to see. He can't walk quite yet but he's crawling around everywhere. So finally we've turned a corner day 8 now.

Hi thanks for checking in! He's so much better today eating playing and talking again. He can't quite walk yet but crawling everywhere. So we've finally turned a corner, wouldn't wish that on anyone

I’m so glad to hear he is better. It’s exhausting when they are ill like that as well as worrying.

SwordToFlamethrower · 18/12/2024 20:40

My 2 year old is just getting over the flu too. She could only breastfeed, and we had to force feed her calpol as well as water using a syringe. She is skin and bones now. And this cane after a bout of norovirus which saw her eating nothing for 3 days!

It's absolutely horrendous. Just keep going. So sorry

Hi how is your little one now?

My daughter has been unwell since Sunday, went to hospital and GP and all 3 times said it was a viral infection.

I have also been unwell with flu so I’m assuming she’s caught whatever I’ve had.

I’m so stressed I’ve seen no improvement now.

Xx

Hey sorry to hear your little one is ill. It's horrible isn't it 🥹 if it's anything like what my son had you may have a few more days until you see improvement. He started to get better on day 8. We're on day 10 now and he's nearly back to his usual self. He's had to pretty much learn how to walk again. His legs are so weak. I think you'd know if it was the flu my son slept day and night fever barely went away and calpol did not even perk him up. I don't think it helped he had a chest infection too. Hope your little one gets better soon
