Clarithromycin - 2 year old

Hello,

My DD has an ear infection in both ears and has been prescribed Clarithromycin, she can't have penicillin and the pharmacist said this is better as stays in the body longer and less doses. We have had it before and it's always a drama and for anyone that has experience of it, it tastes completely rank.. anyway, I have to pin her down to make her have it, she largely regurgitates it back out and I end up scooping it off her cheek back into her mouth over and over again in the hope that most of the dose will go back in, has anyone found anything that genuinely masks the taste? She's dairy intolerant too, so needs to be something that doesn't contain milk

Eugh it's horrible. Why does it have to be so powdery?! Last time we had it I resorted to mixing it with icing sugar and water

Did it take the awful taste Away?
We tried following it with syringes of apple juice tonight and she was so upset

I found the thing that mostly worked was using those fruit pouches (Ella’s Kitchen etc). Needs to be the large size, not the tiny baby ones. Squeeze a bit out then use a syringe to squirt in the dose. Give it a good shake and keep your fingers crossed that they eat most of it.

Top tip: make sure there are no traces left around the top or they will taste it and the game will be up!

Urgh, that one is genuinely awful - your dd has my deepest sympathies.

dd was a bit older than two but I resorted to Mary poppins for advice and bribed her with an actual (tea ) spoon of sugar straight after. I hate to say it but I think that one is too foul to disguise.

I mean I didn't try it myself, but my DD ate it no problem. I followed it up with a tiny bit of icing without medicine in just to be sure. I told her afterwards that it was in there and she couldn't believe it. No problems after that... just had to be very good a teeth brushing!!!

Thanks all, she's so good with medicine as well, so I feel like a total cow making her have this one, I tried it myself mixed with apple juice and it's just vile! May try the sugar option, only 8 more doses to go 😬
