9 month old fever but no other symptoms

My 9 month old is on day 2 of a fever (bouncing between 38-39c at times). I called 111 yesterday, saw OOH doctor who said she looked to be getting a cold as her throat is slightly congested.

She has a slight cough but nothing major, she’s breathing a bit faster than normal but be assured me this is normal. She threw up some of her bottles yesterday but is feeding and eating well, nappies all fine too!

Her top teeth appear to be trying to cut but every bloody doctor says they don’t get a fever with teething, my first did but it was only ever half a day.

I suffer with health anxiety, she had a 3 day stay at 6 months with bronchiolitis after 111 told me to wait it out. I’m STRESSED.

Can anyone relate? Is it teething or should I get her checked again? My mum instinct isn’t telling me to yet but I’m going mad not knowing what’s causing this!

Hey OP, it's hard when your baby is poorly, particularly if you've had a hospital experience like your DD has. I was told by a GP that the key signs that trigger alarm are not feeding and dry nappies. A non-blanching rash should also be checked out too. It sounds like your DD is ok for now, but keep an eye on the above.

Sounds viral so no antibiotics will help and will do more harm. Of breast feeding that is the beat thing. Lots of fluids.
If tue cough is productive or the aore throat turns into bacterial tonsalities take her to the Drs right away.
When it comes to viral a fever is the beat thing to cook the infection out.
If you keep surpressing a fever will take longer to recover and may get worse.
Anything around 38.5 is healthy above that I would give calpol.

What made you take her temperature

What made you take her temperature

She was burning hot when we picked her up from her cot.

Thank you! It’s been tottering above 39 this evening so she’s had nurofen. Just taken now and it was shy of 40 (insert frantic emoji!) but it’s coming down again.
Breathing rate was a little high but again that’s coming down. Window is wide open letting the fresh air take over.

Are you saying her temp was still near 40 and she'd had nurofen recently? If so I think you need to call for an OOH appointment.

I've been told that high fevers above 39 that don't respond to nurofen are a flag for seeing a Dr. Also if they're not feeding or weeing or if they're difficult to wake up.

One thing to watch out for in small babies with fever is a UTI - the symptoms can be very non-specific. If you can catch a urine sample from her bring it along to the doc when you go.
