Our gp closed on weekend… 111 quite unhelpful.
what can this rash be ? 3 year old , loss of appetite and runny nose.
I noticed it in the morning . Mostly his feet in clusters , then some spread on thighs and belly. He never had anything like this before. Any suggestions before I drive myself insane before Monday gp re-opens?
he is his usual happy self , rash doesn’t itch .
thank you in advance!

The start of hand foot and mouth? Did you try a glass over it?

Darlingbudofmay · 30/11/2024 22:49

Looks a lot like hand foot and mouth to me.
My DC had a similar rash - I don't know how to link other threads but I posted in Children's Health on 8th November with pictures.
She was fine apart from the rash and a slight cold. I never did go to the doctor but a couple on her hand did blister so I'm sure that's what it was.

Darlingbudofmay · 30/11/2024 22:51

Definitely check with the glass though, my dcs did fade

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 30/11/2024 23:07

It looks like a post viral rash to me. DD had this after a bit of a cold at nursery but it was her trunk, arms and back not feet. If he's had warm boots on that could explain it.

It's not terribly red and livid - the cases of Hand Foot and mouth I've seen have looked quite red and angry. No fluid filled bumps. Roseaola possibly but only going on DrGoogle pics. I have no personal experience of it but it is contagious so worth being careful.

Are all of his vaccinations up to date though and has he had his first MMR? If not, I'd err on the side of caution in case it's heading into measles.

Wurlywurly · 30/11/2024 23:10

It does look a bit like measles. Has he had the MMR?

OddBallNumber5 · 30/11/2024 23:11

Hand foot and mouth came to mind. But get proper medical advice.

I thought this too. Could equally just be a non-specific viral rashy thing though

Thank you for all replies .
glass test came out clear.
he had all vaccines (BUT NO from mmr)
no fever at all, normal levels of energy munching on breakfast now.
(he attends nursery and I have informed them) updated photos from this morning . Rash is light on colour and spread out bum area. A bit on hand . Nothing on face. No itch .

Do you mean he hasn't had the MMR?

Sylviaplathforever · 01/12/2024 17:19

@Wurlywurly yes , that’s what I mean. He hasn’t .

Why not?

@Wurlywurly yes , that’s what I mean. He hasn’t .

So he hasn't had all vaccines and this could be measles or rubella - the latter is less serious but could be very dangerous to any pregnant women he may come into contact with e.g. at school.

You need to seek a proper medical opinion.

Wurlywurly · 01/12/2024 17:39

As he hasn't had MMR it could be measles and you need to keep him isolated from anyone who is pregnant or not vaccinated. If you see the GP tomorrow you need to warn them it might be measles and you must not sit in the general waiting room. Measles is highly contagious and can lead to serious complications in children and adults.

Hello,

Just popping in to say we decided to remove the images from this thread as we'd hate to think of photos falling into the wrong hands.

Thanks everyone. He woke up with hardly any rash. It was unspecified viral rash and doctor said should be clear within two days.
not a single symptom indicated measles but thanks anyway.

That's good news. Measles and mumps are serious infections that cannot be treated and can result in death, disability and/or infertility. 1 in 5000 who get measles die.

I don't know your reasons for not giving him the MMR vaccine but here is the most up to date information about it https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/mmr-for-all-general-leaflet/mmr-for-all-general-guide
