Missing teeth

Hello, does anyone have any experience of being told DCs may have teeth missing or lying wrong way? How did it work out?

I took my 8 and 10 yo DCs to the dentist for a check up. They both have a mixture of adult and milk teeth but quite a lot of gaps and wonky teeth. The dentist wants to do an X-ray next time as she said they either have some adult teeth missing (there is no family history of this) or they may be lying the wrong way which would mean when they come in they will be wonky and both DC will likely need braces.

I’m worrying and I suppose I’m looking for reassurance from anyone who has been in this position and how it turned out.

Also I’m blaming myself as they were both really difficult to wean off bottles (EBF for first 8-10 months) and they both had a bottle of milk in the evening until they were about 4 years old. I always had in the back of my mind that it could damage their teeth but it was sooo difficult to wean them off. Now I feel dreadful.

My daughter had a few baby milk teeth missing and is missing 9 adult teeth! It is apparently very rare to be missing that many, they just never developed. It won't be anything you have done! It also doesn't run in our family.
She has been under the care of the hospital orthodontist and maxiillofacial and has had braces which are making room for her to have implants when she is 18. Not sure what they'd do for fewer missing teeth. Either way it might mean some work but try not to worry about it as braces, although a pain are very common

Following with interest as my nearly three year old is missing some milk teeth, at this age I don't think they're delayed I think they are not coming. Be interested to read about others experiences with older children.

I have some missing molars including my wisdom teeth! TBH I’m quite overjoyed as I’ve never had the horror of wisdom teeth growing.

It won’t be anything you’ve done. The adult teeth will either be there or they won’t.

Thank you @Daisypod and @Atishooo that’s really reassuring and interesting and I hope it is for you too @Threesmycrowd

I suppose I know that if the teeth are missing there’s no way that’s caused by the bottles but if they’re wonky I can’t shake the feeling it’s my fault. Silly I know as nothing I can do about it now.

All milk teeth came in and perfectly straight. It’s just as the adult teeth are coming in they’re all over the place!

I had 2 adult teeth missing, (first molars) the baby teeth only had problems and eventually came out when I was like 32? And I have a family member who still has theirs at past 40.
So she likely won't even miss then for years. With nothing coming up behind they just never got pushed out.
Oh, and I have 1 wisdom tooth thst appeared at nearly 30. Thus proving the flaw in all the murder dramas where they instantly age a body by it having or not having wisdom teeth 😅
