Anyone with experience? Ds7 diagnosed today and 1 lot of antibiotics in him. He's still feeling rubbish and coughing lots, it's early days but I'm worried over night. There was a sepsis concern but that seems to be ok now. How long to improve?

Hi Beansandcheesearegood - we hope your DS is doing okay.

We're moving your thread to our Children's Health topic and giving it a bump.

My 22 month old recently had pneumonia on the back of viral wheeze and chicken pox. She also had antibiotics and they'd given her steroids and nebulisers / inhalers. She also had sepsis back in June too so I completely feel your pain!

She's absolutely fine and the antibiotics did their job. It took 3/4 days for them to kick in but she was alright after a week.

Just keep an eye on breathing etc
Hope your little one makes a quick recovery, it's rife this year!

@exhaustedpigeon101 oh wow your poor little girl! Abd you - I think you've got an apt user name!- I bet ypu are exhausted!
He's definitely improving, he's not 'better ' but no fever and breathing is better, cough still sounds terrible, he has an inhaler too.

She's okay, she's just been through it bless her! She goes to nursery 5 days a week too so I'm not surprised she gets ill frequently! How's your LO doing now?

My DD had it when she was just a tiny toddler (viral and bacterial), she was really poorly for a couple of days and hospitalised but bounced back relatively quickly with IV meds and oxygen. Took her a while to get over the viral element.

I was almost 10 months pregnant at the time too.

She's now a happy and healthy 5ft 10in 16 year old!

Ds seems so much better! Still bit of a cough but that's it!

After some advice. Ds still not quite right. Tired , said today his heart was beating quickly, still coughing. Is this normal recovery or a Dr. Visit?

I would probably take him to the GP if I was you just to be on the safe side. He might be absolutely fine and just one cough turning into another but best to get them checked. There seems to be an awful lot of little ones in a&e with similar things at the moment

My then not quite 1 year old had it last year. My family GP knew her well and so had sent us to hospital as he shared my concerns. Docs were so sure it was viral that I had to push them for testing. Glad I did. Took 10 days of anitibiotics and she was so poorly. We were due to go on holiday and the last dose was taken in the airport hotel the night before we flew - and we still weren’t sure we were going until we got to the morning - overnight she had improved loads. Even then I was worrying about where we could take her if she regressed while we were away. Hope he feels better soon.

That erratic or higher than normal heartbeat is called tachycardia. It’s common when fighting off a bug or infection. Both my kids get it whenever they have a nasty virus that brings a temperature. It’s the body fighting off a reaction. If it comes with other symptoms like chest sucking in under the ribs, or in the throat take him to hospital. We bought a finger thing that shows heart rate, temperature and blood oxygen after my little boy was admitted the first time with RSV and it was a very good £14 spend. Oxygen under 95 or heart above 160 (where for my kids age tachycardia is 150)and we go to hospital xx
