Adenoids removed, tonsils cut back - yet another ear infection

Hi everyone, really hoping anyone might be able to offer some advice or share their personal experiences. I can't believe we're here again.

Ds4 has had 8 ear infections in total. 6 were between February and May of this year. The ENT removed his adenoids (they were massive) and cut back his tonsils, and drained the little amount of fluid that was in his right ear. He didn't put in grommets at the time as the fluid was runny and not sticky.
The operation was in September. Ds has had a cold for around a week, Saturday he was up in the night complaining of his ear, this morning again saying it's worse. He's now screaming on the sofa with the pain.
We're off the doctors this afternoon but I was hoping to ask if anyone's children still experienced middle ear infections despite having had the operation?
I was told by the doctors the adenoids were the culprit and the infections would stop and I just can't believe we're back here again. I don't think any of us have the strength to do another winter like last winter
...

I don’t know if this is any help, but my DD had similar to your son but with tonsils not ears. 2-3 months after tonsils were removed, she got…scarlet fever and a raging sore
throat. I was so disappointed and worried but the dr who saw her said that tonsils /adenoids out won’t mean they never get a sore
throat/ ear infection again, but it should lessen the frequency and severity of them.

I hope he feels better soon and I am so sorry for you as I know the feeling of just not being able to face another Winter of it 🤍

My daughter only had an ear infection after the operation (in her case it was done to improve her hearing). She had one absolutely massive one (pus running down her neck from her ears) and never had one since. So he might not be getting them all winter.
Have you tried daily saline nasal rinses?

Thanks so much for the replies @dancinginthedark123 and @Narkacist

I think I went a bit into panic mode this morning, thinking here we go again but it's reassuring to read although he might have one now, it might not be as severe or they might not come as frequently.
He does indeed have an ear infection, and he's been given a medicine syrup to dissolve the mucus... And another appt on Wednesday morning to check his ear.
I suppose the difference this time is he actually has a runny nose (nothing would come out before), and ibuprofen/paracetamol is actually helping (before it wouldn't).

I haven't tried a saline nasal rinse though...we are just using a saline spray twice a day. Would this also help clear out his ears?
