Staphylococcus Scalded Skin Syndrome

Hi guys. Does anyone have any experience with their children contracting Staphylococcus Scalded Skin Syndrome (SSSS)? My 2 year old DD finished her 3rd course of antibiotics 12 days ago and today it’s came back again! We’ve been given a 4th course of antibiotics but myself and partner are worried so many antibiotics is an 8 week period are going to end up doing more harm than good. I guess we’ve lost all hope with the doctors having been told conflicting information and many of the doctors not actually knowing what SSSS is. If anyone has had similar reoccuring cases with their little ones, or has any advice or knowledge we would really approve it.
Thank you in advance

I found this online it says it should be a ten day course are they giving her a long enough course to begin with? As if not then it won’t kill all the germs plus it says it shouldn’t come back plus about using antiseptic daily on skin https://www.bad.org.uk/pils/staphylococcal-scalded-skin-syndrome/

My daughter: Not SSS but something presenting similarly (Steven's-Johnson Syndrome, although I did wonder if it was SSS. There are a few similar conditions).

No advice I'm afraid but just letting you know that I've been through similar. It was awful - GP didn't know what was wrong with her, had to send photos to a specialist and then when they knew what it was, we were told NOT to Google it (because the mortality rate is significant). She had a hospital stay and recovered but it was over a period of weeks. She was lucky - although she was pretty unwell, it was only a 'mild' case.

I hope your little one recovers soon xx

The first course was 5 days through IM. Then the second was 5 days oral and the third was 7 days oral. We’ve always thought these wasn’t long enough but also know you should never take longer than prescribed by the doctor 🤷🏻‍♂️ Their just doesn’t seem to be a plan in place or a plan B and we’re going round in circles.

She might need a higher dose of the oral AB. My DD was very unwell with something (not Staph) and after ten days IV antibiotics was discharged from hospital A with oral AB. The infection came back and we went to a different hospital as we were away who said that the first hospital had her on half the dose they would have had.

If your DD shows any signs of being unwell at all apart from the rash I'd go straight to hospital and if you're not convinced with the care you've received so far you could consider a different hospital especially if it would give more access to specialists.

Thanks Light Speeds. Steven’s Johnson Syndrome was mentioned early on but after tests it was confirmed as SSSS. Glad your little one made a full recovery 🙌
