Is my DD vagina normal?

DJL19 · 19/11/2024 20:49

Hi, I have another open thread about my daughter currently having threadworms, which have prompt me to take a closer look at down below on a regular! But, my dd is 5 and is quite self sufficient; she dresses herself, washes & wipes etc so I cant say Ive really noticed until now she has quite a few very long black hairs on her labias! And they are really long, is this normal? Shes only 5 so no chance of starting puberty yet. Shes my first dd so Im new to all of this, and already have anxiety over the horrific infestation of threadworms going on right now 😫
Sorry if this is a stupid thing to ask!

Being five doesn’t mean there’s no chance of puberty; it could mean she is going through puberty prematurely. I’d take her to the GP.

Please, for your daughters sake, if this post is true, educate yourself about female anatomy. You found hairs in her vagina?? Fgs.

MorettiForMargo · 19/11/2024 20:58

I think you mean vulva, not vagina.

You should take her to the GP as it can be a sign of Precocious Puberty and would need treatment at such a young age.

CandyLeBonBon · 19/11/2024 21:03

Op you don't seem very aware of female anatomy?

adviceneeded1990 · 19/11/2024 21:05

I’d get a GP check up. My friends daughter had public hair from around 7/8 then started periods at 9 so if she’s showing signs at 5 she may well be in early puberty. Ignore all the vulva/vagina shite, they know what you mean and are obviously bored 🙄.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 19/11/2024 21:09

OP only mentions labia so why all the vagina/vulva comments? (Unless OP went back and edited the post?)

Anyway... yes... 5 year old needs to see GP as it is too early for puberty.

mugglewump · 19/11/2024 21:10

My DD had a few pubic hairs at about age 8 (can't exactly remember as over a decade ago). The GP referred her for a bone scan which shows the age at which the body is maturing (done on her hand). We told her the bone scan was routine to check she was growing well, so there was no cause for embarrassment or concern. The bone scan came back as roughly her age so they said not to worry about it. She started her periods at the age of 12, so completely normal.

Oh god, I rolled my eyes so hard at the posters trying to correct you on the right term to use… so bloody unnecessary, unhelpful, pointless… I could go on. They know exactly what you mean.

I think taking her to the GP is the right thing, it may be nothing, but always worth getting checked out 😊

Can you try and speak to a GP without her first? Just thinking would be pretty embarrassing for a 5yo to go sit at the doctors to hear her mum telling a strangers she's got hair on her privates. There's no need for her to worry about it at this point imo.

DJL19 · 19/11/2024 21:40

Thank you yes thats a good idea hopefully the GP will just take it from me x

If your child has threadworms, almost certainly you and the rest of the household do, too.
The eggs are so tiny they can be inhaled.
Short nails, damp dust.

Take a pharmacy medicine, for the entire family.

Applesandpears23 · 19/11/2024 21:45

Are they actually growing there? I ask because when I was a child I sometimes got my long hair trapped in my butt cheeks.

Give it a rest for goodness sake, you KNEW what the OP meant. Go over to Pedants Corner and have a rant.

I think you've just won post of the week with that one 😂

Wherethewildthingsfart · 19/11/2024 21:52

Just to put your mind at rest, One thing that your GP or any health professional is very unlikely to do is to berate you on the language used!

Oblomov24 · 19/11/2024 21:55

Posters being petty re wording are pathetic. Op clearly said labia. Definitely take a picture for evidence, and take her to GP. I too wonder if she's early, and will need a consultant referral.

The title of the thread is "is my daughter's vagina normal".

I was expecting this to be a "hairy hands" dodgy post and clicked on it to report it. There are utter creeps who post on here from time to time and the thread title seemed a bit suspect.

Luckily though, it's not and the OP is going to take her child to the GP to get her checked.

If you couldn’t understand what op meant then you need to get yourself down the the gp as well. Idiots galore!

Trixiefirecracker · 19/11/2024 22:02

Don’t take a picture for evidence!!

Bluebellyhedge · 19/11/2024 22:03

I'm embarrassed about the people correcting your language rather than offering advice.

Absolute cringe. I'd Definitely take her to the GP.

MabelMora · 19/11/2024 22:08

If you're going to the GP I wouldn't take photos of it. A description should be enough.

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 19/11/2024 22:13

Read the room. This is in children's health FFS. You are embarrassing yourself.

Op - definitely take her to the GP just in case this is precocious puberty.

  • The top comment is aimed at Username whatever who pretended not to know what the op was referring to in that ridiculous faux head tilt way. For some reason my post would not allow me to directly quote their comment

Very bad advice!

Don't take pictures of a child's genitals.
