Aptamil lactose free

Hi everyone.

advice needed. So my DS is 9 weeks old today. I have tried hipp organic, hipp comfort and have rchanged to kendamil and then kendamil goat after all of the above cause itritablity and squirminess with trouble passing wind. So we then changed to kendamil goats milk. So I have since been to a person who can tell about allergies. And DS apparently has a dairy allergy and a lactose allergy. The person then advised me to go on aptamil lactose free/ or nutramigen. My first born was on nutramigen so I opted for the aptamil. Now I’m doubting myself.
has anyone ever been in this position?
is there any symptoms or signs I should watch out for if I start the lactose free formula.
Any advice would be appreciated as I feel like I have moved to different formulas too many times

Who has diagnosed this allergy? It is not possible to be allergic to lactose which is a sugar (intolerances are possible, not generally in a baby this small though).

Superscientist · 19/11/2024 13:46

It would be unusual to be both allergic to milk proteins and intolerant to milk sugars.
Cows milk protein allergy is more likely in babies. You would usually start with an extensively hydrolysed formula such as nutramigen moving on to an amino acid formula if that doesn't help. Nutramigen is still dairy based so will still have lactose in. The amino acid formula is completely dairy free and doesn't have lactose intolerance either

dementedpixie · 19/11/2024 13:55

Who diagnosed your baby and how did they do it?

Lactose free milk will still contain cows milk protein so wouldn't suit if it really is dairy allergy/intolerance.

Lifeglowup · 19/11/2024 13:58

Who is this person? They’re giving contradiatory advice. There is cow milk protein allergy and lactose intolerance. If they’re allergic to cow milk then they can’t have lactose free cow milk because it contains cow milk protein which they’ve said they’re allergic too.

@Unseenentity he is a kinesiologies who also has the allergy testing. I'm not 100% of his qualifications to be honest. But now I'm all confused I would have thought the goats milk would have been ok for my son to have considering I used me allergic to dairy or maybe more I had an intolerance to it when I was a baba.
Really confused now though

@Lifeglowup that is very true why would he say that lactose free and tell me he has intolerance to dairy which is in the normal cows milk formula

Primary lactose intolerance in babies is really quite rare, while milk protein allergy is relatively common. I’d consider that cmpa is a possibility and look for either a hydrolysed formula (eg nutramigen) or some very sensitive babies need amino acid based formula. Both are a pain to deal with but a lactose free formula is unlikely to help. Please see an actual doctor though, the person you’ve seen sounds like a quack.

Tess2018 · 20/11/2024 09:11

@Duckinglunacy I know to be honest I've come across some doctors that don't have a clue about CMPA or intolerances either and just brush it off.

I have decided to stick with goats milk and going to see if that makes a difference and then on to the nutramigen as a last resort!! My first born(as I said) was on nutramigen it's rotten stuff but it worked for her. I was just avoiding going down that lane! But will if I have too absolutely.

90% of babies that are allergic to cmpa are allergic to all mammalian milks do will also react to goats milk.
Allergy testing only works for immediate allergies and for babies this is often in conclusive with false negatives. Delayed allergies can only be diagnosed by removing the allergens see the symptoms disappear then reintroduce and see if they return

Anyone can call themselves a kinesiologist, the basis of their theories is completely unscientific and they definitely shouldn't be trusted to diagnose allergies/intolerances in children (or anyone else!)

Why would you put your baby through this? My child had CMPA and it was hell until they got the right stuff. They must be so uncomfortable while you faff around with magical thinking quacks lying to you and taking your money instead of going to a free doctor with real qualifications. Just go to a doctor with a list of symptoms, get the bloody Nutramigen and breathe through your mouth. If they don't give it to you, book another appointment with another doctor and keep doing this until you get somewhere. They're really not all clueless about CMPA these days, they're largely very aware of it.

@MiraculousLadybug
If you can't be nice why fucking say anything at all especially to mothers who are just after having babies. Stop trolling different pages and giving your nasty unwanted comments.
I am well aware of his uncomfortableness and don't need you to criticise what I do all I was asking for was some advice of people that may have been on goats milk. And certainly not for you to criticise what I have asked! In future if you have anything nasty or negative to say keep your opinions to yourself. Life can be fragile enough for some people without u adding nasty comments!!
