Digestion/ food intolerance?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with food allergies etc…my 9 year old is very healthy, tall and slim and very athletic (tall for his age so no growth issues) however he has the most unbelievably bad wind. Every time he farts it smells awful. I mean AWFUL. He’s always been a bit gassy but it definitely seems worse at the moment. He’s never been the most enthusiastic eater but does eat if you give it to him (but has always had a small appetite), doesn’t often complain of tummy ache, almost never sick and doesn’t get diarrhoea very often but does get quite frequent trapped wind. His poo (sorry if TMI!) is usually a lighter brown rather than darker and he’s very regular, he usually goes once a day. He eats a varied diet in the main and is very healthy. Drinks milk, fruit juice and water (never fizzy) prefers yogurt over anything else for dessert and has a decent amount of veg.

I would say he does get tired but he is in a football academy and trains 3 x a week and plays 2x at weekends so it doesn’t seem out of the ordinary. But other than that there are no other standout symptoms, no rashes or aches etc.

He’s on a probiotic and multivitamin.

I know it doesn’t sound dramatic but he really is very smelly and sometimes I wonder if he might be uncomfortable but not telling us.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I have health anxiety particularly around my youngest and so I try not to rush him to the GP for everything despite temptation! Any advice welcome x

The lighter colour could be a sign of coeliac disease.

I would also second potentially coeliacs.
