2.5 car accident

So last Tuesday my 2.5 year old was clipped by a speeding car outside my house. Ambulance and police were there within seconds of ringing. He's broke his right leg (tibiea) and is in a heel to thigh cast until Friday. Thankfully it was a clean break and the drs are positive it'll heal very quick and well. Other than that he's absolutely fine. My concern is is that since it's happened (not every night) but he wakes up 2-3 times a night crying about his other leg stretching it out and crying it's stuck then as soon as I start massaging it he goes back to sleep. X-ray indicated his hips spine and other leg were fine. My guess is it's because he's a lot less mobile now during the day and it's cramping up but just wondering if anyone else have experienced this at all? Thanks :)

Oh bless his heart! Does he complain at all during the day? It may be because he is laying in one position and unable to move around at night, but if it was during the day as well, I would definitely think the X-ray may have missed something. I would keep an eye on him for the moment. Poor lad, I hope he’s better soon

OMG I am so sorry. Thank goodness nothing more serious happened.

If he is allowed to walk on his broken leg then his other leg might be strained due to being higher up and his body being wonky. If he's on crutches he will be putting more weight on it, which might also have an effect. Call the fracture outpatients for advice if you are worried - I did this when I had concerns about aches and pains after a break.

No during the day he's fine. It's only at night when he's sleeping

Yes if I had engaged brain I would have realised this! Not exercising definitely makes limbs cramp up. As he responds so well to them perhaps give him a massage before he sleeps?

Are you doing OK? I honestly think if I had witnessed something like this I would get mild PTSD. I hope people are supporting you too xx

What a fright. There is a few exercises for muscles that may help him. Have a look up YouTube of leg cramp exercises.

We used to have to do them as children. They are gentle, making a circle with his healthy ankle. Parent gently encouraging to flex back their toes back. Etc.

Even a few of them may help release what may be a build up of lactic acid.

In all honesty I'm not at all. I was getting him out his car seat and the car door was wide open. We live on a tight road opposite a primary school and bmw was speeding down. His foot must of been under the car door because next thing I know all I can see it his head being hit by the guys front light so like the corner. He initially got out but then took off. Armed responses came within seconds, and loads of police. The street was taped off too. Thankfully he didn't have any head spine or hip injuries. The guys being prosecuted aswell. But weve been complaining to the council for the longest about speed bumps etc as it's a slip road and at either end is 2 40 mph roads and ours is 20. Also been complaining to the school about teachers constantly taking up parking spaces outside my house. Right now my head is in daze as I feel that we've been extremely lucky but at the same time I can't shake off the what ifs
