Hiya,

Sorry if this is wrong to post super new. My son woke late last night with sudden sharp groin pain and vomiting we were also pale and ghost-looking. We rushed him to our emergency department and operated on him this morning for torsion of his testicles.

They plan to dischagre him tomorrow morning how can I best prepare for him to come home? We live about 2 hours away and mostly of C roads. My husband has gone home tonight to bring back the bigger car in the morning and look after the others after we have been gone all day. Our plan is to sit him in the back of the car strapped in of course so he can lay out and maybe sleep for the journey home. He is in ferce pain tonight they have just given him some pain relief and his antibiotics. Dad is going to bring plenty of blankets for the car too

Anything else we can do or prepare for him at home. Sorry I know this is a super sensitive issue but I cannot seem to find any information or support elsewhere!

I think you are over thinking it.

I'd get him to sit in the car normally as it's safer in the event of an RTA. A blanket and cushion in case he wants to sleep against the door would be kind.

Make sure he is up to date with his painkillers when you leave the hospital.

Regular Ibuprofen/ Paracetamol is normal for this operation.

When home keep on top of his painkillers and spoil him with crap TV and bit of a fuss. He'll probably want to wear baggy pants and joggers (or equivalent) for a day or two.

Thank you so much! I think you are very right and it’s been hard to stop my mind from racing. I’ll get my hubby to bring a pillow too! And also stock up on pain meds on the way here tomorrow!

i'd bring a cooler and have some ice packs (double check that's still used for testicular pain post op, it was when i worked as a nurse). Popsicles/freezies (depending on anaestetic he may have a sore throat).
if money isn't an object i might consider a hotel stay near the hospital for one night, review how mobile he is and how well the pain is controlled.
i'd probably prepare for some nausea and possible vomiting (bucket/plastic bags/disposable wash clothes etc.) and in the same line of thought maybe a change of clothing (joggers and loose undies to accommodate swelling).
best to have all this at hand and unused than the alternative...

Thank you all! We made it home this evening it wasn’t the most comfortable of journeys but made it home in good time. He’s asleep now and exhausted after the last few days x
