Take baby to urgent care?

My 4 month old started with a cold on Sunday, typically we went on holiday (luckily within the UK) on Monday but have decided to come home early as she's really struggling with congestion and breathing. She's sucking in at the ribs slightly and we had the paramedics out last night and they confirmed no temp and oxygen levels were fine. However she didn't settle at all last night and had a temperature of 38.5 when she woke up today and it hasn't gone down all day with Calpol as well. Would you take her to urgent care? She seems fine within herself but slightly sleepier than usual but happy enough when awake. So hard to know what the right thing to do is 😞

No, I wouldn't,l if she's fine in herself, but call 111 for reassurance and follow their advice.

Have you tried saline nose drops to help with congestion?

Needmorelego · 07/11/2024 14:49

You could ring 111 for advice but they will probably say to take her in so to be honest just take her anyway.

In my experience urgent care always want to see your baby if you are worried. I took mine a lot as I was a very anxious new mother.

One thing a HCP said to me is that if your baby is playing and settled they don't worry too much.

Good luck op x

If a temperature doesn't come down with Calpol to less than 38 I'd want the baby checked over. Our local Urgent care here would see a baby but wouldn't be able to treat breathing difficulties or do blood tests etc. They sent us to A&E when DD was ill as they couldn't do what was needed there. I'd call 111 for an out of hours GP appointment in the first instance and they can decide if baby needs seeing at hospital.

If you are worried then give 111 a call. If only to put your mind at ease.
She is only little, just call and see what they say.

Pandasnacks · 07/11/2024 20:38

If she's still sucking in at the ribs I'd take her. 111 can advise too though and may be able to get an OOH appointment to avoid as much waiting

Entertainmentcentral · 07/11/2024 20:41

Have you counted her resps per minute?

Is her tummy coming out when she breathes in?

Entertainmentcentral · 07/11/2024 20:44

I would call 111 but in the meantime count her breaths per minute. If she's over the upper limit take her in.

Clocloxx · 07/11/2024 20:45

How is you're baby? It's so scary when they are sick

Sunshineandrainbow · 07/11/2024 20:48

Is she taking milk OK?

Babyboomtastic · 08/11/2024 13:47

I'd phone for a same day gp appointment. I've always been able to get one with small ones.

RevelryMum · 08/11/2024 14:13

Have you got a humidifier in her room at night ? A Vapor plug in even to help her congestion . I would also sit in the bathroom let the shower run and just steam her it would be very good for her breathing. I know that's not what you asked but it will help x

UpUpUpU · 08/11/2024 14:16

Personally, no I wouldn’t. But please call 111 if you are worried
