15 yr old - regularly having bad pain in joints

As title suggests really. 15 year old dd regularly complains of pain in her joints - predominantly the knees, both of them but sometimes the shoulders and hips. The pain can come on seemingly randomly, sometimes after PE or exercise or after a day where she has been wandering around the shops all day with her friends, but also if she has been laying on her bed watching tv etc.

We went to the GP and she was sent for X-rays and had some blood tests. X-rays were fine and GP said blood tests were all in normal range. GP didn't seem inclined to do anything further and just advised paracetamol/ibuprofen for flare ups and hopefully she'll grow out of it.

The problem is it seems to be getting worse rather than better, she regularly comes in complaining of pain - particularly in the knees. I'm thinking the best thing is to see the GP and ask for her to be referred to see an orthopaedic consultant? I know GPs aren't allowed to request MRI scans anymore or at least they aren't in our health board so do I assume I ask for her to be referred and hope the consultant requests the MRI?

I'm just a bit concerned that the GP wasn't that bothered and I don't know if they can refuse to refer? I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has been though anything similar with their child. Thanks

If you haven't been back to the GP, they GP will assume she is better. So I think you should go back. If you can do an online consult, so much the better. You can write everything down clearly and then when you get your 10 minutes, they already have everything on the screen.

I would also keep a food diary for a while and see if anything triggers the pain. Start now. You need at least 2 weeks, 4 is better.

Hi thanks for responding. Yes it's been about six weeks now so I will arrange an appointment as I imagine if they do refer us she will join a lengthy waiting list so I need to get her on it asap.

Thank you though for the tip about a food diary, I hadn't even considered that as a possibility so will definitely do that. Thanks x
