Ds fainting

DS 14 fainted today while out with friends, not proper hit the deck stuff, but just felt a bit dizzy and seeing spots and sort of wobbled into sitting position and felt like he blacked out for a few seconds.
He said this has happened a few times over the last few months.

Do you think it’s worth ringing out of hours to get him seen or to just wait til Monday to see our GP?

Had he eaten?

Poor lad.

Could be a number of reasons:
dehydrated
start/end of virus
low blood sugar
stress
poor sleep
standing for too long in one position

Do any of these apply?
I am prone to this too, even as an adult.

Did he have any headache pain immediately before fainting? We were advised to get DD checked at A&E when this happened. If not, I think you’ll be ok to wait until Monday.

At A&E they checked for diabetes and heart (ecg), that’s all I remember really as it was a long time ago. I think she has been fainting more due to puberty and am hoping it eases off as she gets older - she only faints due to an aversion to blood etc though.

Hope he’s ok.

Both my kids had this as teens. Both very tall. If it keeps happening get him checked at GP and ask for an ECG very simple. Mine had vasal vagal episodes (height and age related). They said to drink fluids but also include salt in their diet. Many heart tests and monitoring later, they are fingers crossed growing out of it. They both know how to manage it now. But it can be horrible as they were sometimes sick and it feels horrible and scary.

Phone nhs 111 and ask them. He needs to be seen and nhs 111 can decide how urgent it is. Could be anything, not eating, low blood pressure, epilepsy.

Thanks everyone
he had eaten and had a chilled day so wasn’t overtired, he is quite tall though so could be a factor, I will ring 111 now and see what they recommend

This happened to me at that age and had ECGs and was diagnosed with a heart condition.

I’d get him checked out to be safe, especially if it’s happened before.
My 13 year old has inherited a defected gene which could cause heart problems in the future and one of the things we’ve been told that could be a sign of heart problems is dizziness and fainting.
