Coeliacs constipation

Hello,

My ds10 has recently been diagnosed with coeliacs disease, he's only 5 n half weeks into the gluten free diet. He's been struggling with constipation due to it. He's been on Laxido for 2 months now, steadily increasing it over time (there is no impaction according to consultant) - started with 1 a day which wasn't enough, moved up to 2 a day, sort of improved things, now been on 3 a day for around 3 weeks and it's still not working how we'd like.

The stool is absolutely soft (not diarrhea) but he has to strain most days to get it out, there's not a lot each time he goes and he's going several times a day to try and pass it all. I have a telephone call with the consultant tomorrow, does anyone think a stimulant laxative would be better? We've tried lactulose earlier this year and it just gave him constant steady diarrhea which was no good.

Anyone else experienced this? It's affecting his appetite because he feels full up and unable to eat until he passed a certain amount of stool and then gets ravenously hunger and this is going round in circles driving him and us mad with frustration.

Sorry another thing I wanted to ask was has anyone treated their child's constipation with childrens magnesium supplements? I know magnesium citrate can have a laxative affect. I saw these online but nervous to introduce anything that's not approved by doctors, he already takes a probiotic gummy and iron gummy 🙄

Is he eating a lot of fatty food OP? I ask because that can contribute to what i can only describe as " sticky diarrhoea" in coeliacs.

Try and make sure he drinks plenty, keeps active, and some ripe banana and plenty of fibre would help. Good luck.

He has ASD so his diet is restrictive and switching to GF has been difficult for him, he won't eat bananas due to the texture (anything wet or that goes mushy in your mouth is a sensory no for him). He drinks a lot and is fairly active when he's not fatigued from the coeliacs. His fibre would mainly come from nuts.

Anyone else experienced this? Whether with coeliacs or not?
