15 month daughter fell off sofa head first

My 15 month old daughter fell head first onto the floor from a standing position and I was unable to catch her because I was holding my newborn at the time who was crying.

She cried immediately for ten minutes but is now settled

However I have just noticed that the front of her head,(forehead) is soft...not sure if it has always been like this as never checked.

She has no bruising but I am worried if the soft skin on her forehead is a result of the fall (e.g. internal bleeding/ bruising)

Any advice please?

My partner will get back home this evening and I will consider taking her to A&E then if it is nothing serious just not sure right now : (

I would call 111 and ask their advice

She is more than likely fine, I’d still probably call 111 for peace of mind though.

I hope she’s ok. During the day you should call GP rather than 111.

coffeesaveslives · 17/10/2024 14:27

Take her to the GP if possible.

Why? Most GPs wont do phone consults. The 111 service is literally designed to give people the option to get advice on next steps. What’s wrong with using it during the day?

111 will more than likely send you to A&E/urgent care unfortunately this is the case every single time I've had to call 111 especially in the case of a child with a possible head injury.

Maybe it’s regional, in my area it is an out of hours service. My GP is great for seeing kids same day when required, it’s a shame
its a postcode lottery.

So jealous of people who can get same day /next day GP appointments! OP - have you rung 111?

If it helps, I just checked and my toddlers forehead feels velvety/almost spongy. Not hard/thin skin like an adult's forehead.

SonK · 17/10/2024 17:34

Thank you for the advice everyone I called 111 and they advised to keep an eye on her and update them for any changes in her wellbeing. Also they mentioned I can take her to A&E or wait for GP to contact me

Thank you, I was really worried as I have never taken notice before!
