ENT - recurrent ear infections

Long story short my almost 2 year old suffers from recurrent ear infections.

Our local ENT won't operate due to her age so we have been referred to Alder Hey

When the referral was made I was told my child would be out on daily trimethoprim 'for a few months' until seen by Alder Hey. She has been on trimethorprim since the beginning of June and I'm told she won't be seen by Alder Hey until July 2025 at the earliest.

I don't want her on trimethoprim for that long but she had 2 days off it amd straight away had another ear infection.

I'm willing to fight her corner but I was hoping someone could help me with medical knowledge/ facts etc to say the right thing

Thanks in advance

Trimethoprim is used long-term for urine infection prevention, obviously it's preferable not to be on something that could be avoided but most children on it tolerate it well.

Unfortunately ENT capacity is still recovering from the pandemic and waits are as long all over the country - miserable stuff for children and their parents. One thing you could do is flag that you are available at short notice if an op is cancelled (assuming that is the case!)
