UTI symptoms

Could anyone give some advice please.
My 11 year old granddaughter has been experiencing uti symptoms but the GP has sent off urine samples and says there is no sign of infection and has basically dismissed her and my daughter, her mum.
Does anyone suggest what to do next?

Has she tried the otc treatments for cystitis like the powder sachets? Cranberry juice really helps too. I suffered for about 6 months with cystitis when I was at uni and what worked best for me was a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of squash, it tasted really horrible but would down it and it started working really quickly.

Thanks so much.
The problem is that she’s also autistic and has very clear ideas about what she will and won’t take!
I just understand why she has the symptoms but seemingly no bacteria.
I appreciate your reply, thank you.

Not problem, I found a hot water bottle helped a bit too

Thank you. Were your problems actually infections?

NHS cultures are notoriously unreliable, especially for chronic infections. Just because it's come back clear does not mean she definitely doesn't have an infection, she might have a low level ongoing infection. You should see another GP and get a second opinion as most GP's should prescribe antibiotics based on symptoms because they now know cultures and dip sticks can be unreliable (this is the case with adults, not sure about children). i would also push for a longer treatment plan, around 2-4 weeks given the infection has been untreated for a while and potentially allowed to really take hold. failing that the best thing would be to see a private specialist who can do more sensitive tests for bacteria and then develop a treatment plan which might involve longer term antibiotics as the short term treatments prescribed by GP's rarely fully treat the infection. you will be able to resolve this for her with the right specialist.
