What did your baby weigh at 9 weeks

Hi, my baby boy was 8lb 3oz when he was born, he dropped off a little when we were learning to breast feed, combo fed for a while to make sure he was getting enough but have been exclusively breast feeding for 6 weeks now. He was ticking along nicely on the 50th centile however went to baby weigh in this morning and he’s dropped off the 50th centile. He’s now 11lb 9oz and the health visitor made me feel abit crap to be honest. Quizzing me on how often I feed, is he getting enough hind milk, are you feeding him in the night etc etc. I feed him on demand and thought I was doing ok- now I feel like my baby isn’t getting enough. He has lots of wet nappies and does big blow outs every 4 days. Is 11lb 9oz too small for a 9 week old?
thanks

he’s dropped off the 50th centile to what? What centile is he on now? Look on the chart in the red book.

Any concerns see a GP.

Some HVs are just rubbish, don't let her tone or any outdated advice throw you off. You have to observe the whole baby, not one weight on one day.

Is he feeding at night? Are you offering regularly?

It’s not a case of “how much should a baby weigh at 9 weeks” it’s a case of if that is correct for YOUR baby. My goddaughter was 10lb 3oz born, so if she had weighed 11lb 9oz at 9 weeks then that would be a concern and she would have obviously not been gaining enough, my daughter was 7lb 14oz born and so 11lb 9oz at 9 weeks would have been perfect for her. I was given a chart thing when I had my first health visitor appointment and it says on there that a 50th centile boy should be around 12lb 5oz at 2 months, that would be the expected based on their 50th centile lines so at 11lb 9oz your baby is slightly below that.

I’d try to think practically rather than emotionally, is he feeding enough? Do you do night feeds? They say if baby is gaining properly you can just feed on demand but if baby isn’t gaining properly then it’s more a case of structured feeding & dream/night feeds to keep them topped up.

Don’t beat yourself up about it, being a first time mum is hard and you’re learning along the way!

@bergamotorange He dropped half a centile, so not a lot but she made me feel like it wasn’t good enough- even asked me to show her my latch and I politely declined as she made me feel so uncomfortable.
He feeds twice overnight, and I always dream feed if he hasn’t woken for the second night feed. Through the day it can be every hour if he’s been fussy, every 3 if he’s having a more settled day- some days I feel like I’m pinned to the sofa when he’s cluster feeding so I don’t really know where I’m going wrong

Do you mean he's now midway between 50th and 25th?

The NHS says this: Your baby's weight and height may not follow a centile line exactly. Their measurements may go up or down by 1 centile line, but it's less common for them to cross 2 centile lines. If this happens, talk to a health visitor, who can advise you. Your baby hasn't even crossed one line?
