YourGladMember · 11/10/2024 09:43

DD15 been suffering with stomach cramps and Diarrhoea. Been going on for more than two months now. Some days worse than others.

Been to see GP a couple times but they didn't seem at all too concerned and didn't really offer any advice or what could be the cause.

Eats a very clean diet so it's nothing to do with her food unless she has an intolerance to something.

Similar issues with teen. Blood tests & samples taken. Complain and get them seen properly.

Worth keeping a bit of a food diary to see if any obvious triggers leap out. One possibility is IBS type things which can often start this sort of age.

The main relevant blood test is the one for celiac diseases, often does get done for non-specific symptoms because it's known for catching people out, worth discussing directly. Needs to be eating gluten in the diet in the run up to the test ie don't exclude it yet.

Stool sample can detect unusual infections, though this is less likely if there are no other suggestive features and symptoms are only on/off.

"wait and see" with few/no tests isn't necessarily unreasonable, but it doesn't sound as if they are explaining their assessment / thought process very well from your point of view.

I would ask for tests for coeliac. Often doctors miss it.

Faecal calprotectin test after a coeliac one and ask for referral to gastro

MumofCrohnie · 11/10/2024 23:04

She is in peak age for inflammatory bowel disease diagnosis. Definitely needs a calprotectin and coeliac screen.
Any other symptoms? Tired, pale, weight loss, random fevers? Brittle dull hair?

Surprisingly enough diarrhoea can be caused by constipation. It is the body's way of trying to shift a blockage. Do you think that might be a possibility?

Aerielview · 11/10/2024 23:26

Test for coeliac. Also read up on ulcerative colitis and Crohns disease. And the Specific Carbohydrate Diet.

Definitely push for blood tests and stool sample test. These are the only test that will identify if there is anything going on.
