Sickness bug

I'll start by saying I have emetophobia so this is my worse nightmare right now 😭 My DD started with a sickness bug Fri night at 11pm. Was sick either 3 or 4 times until 1.20am Sat morning. Nothing then all day Sat until Sun morning where she was sick 2 or 3 times between 8.30am-11.40am. Nothing again for the rest of Sun. Has been fine today. Has eaten a bit - some ready salted crisps, ice lolly, chocolate waffle, a jam/cream biscuit, an apple and a small pack of party rings. She had a shower this evening, was whingy in there and when she came out. Started coughing and crying and then brought up everything she's ate today just before 8pm. I honestly don't know whether I'm coming or going as I thought we seemed done with it today. Is this normal for a sickness bug? 😕

Oh that's tough OP. Sounds like it was done.

Perhaps just a lot of food today and then tears and coughing brought it up. See how she goes tonight.

I'm. Great believer in a little of what you fancy. But try to keep to plain things. Toast. Banana. Look at brat diet. Perhaps some plain cereal. Just until sure it's passed.

I would say give her at least 12 hours, if not 24 with plain water and then 24 hours of plain food. I wouldn't be giving her ANYTHING basically sweet for 48 hours after vomiting. Stick to things like crackers, fruit, bread.

chocolate, biscuits, party rings, crisps etc?? Way too heavy for a very sensitive stomach after a sick bug! Needs to eat plain food to build herself up. Plain rice, bananas, dry toasts etc.

In response to you all as you've all said similar things. My DD has autism so food is a big issue as she's so fussy. I'll give her a decent break and maybe try something small mid morning tomorrow. I'll keep it plainer tomorrow as maybe she did have too much today. Drink will be squash or Lucozade sport (she won't drink water). Toast with a tiny bit of butter or jam (she won't eat it dry) and throughout the day if wanted an ice lolly or Pom Bears (I was thinking of the salt, people seem to suggest it). Does that sound ok? Really sorry, I just can't even think straight 😞

How is your DD today? I sympathise as I used to panic about vomiting too, though exposure therapy through my DC seems to have helped and I'm not quite as bad now.

I think it's not too unusual for vomiting to start again (although massively disheartening if like me you're counting the days hoping you haven't been contaminated and need to start the countdown again). A few children at DS' school have had this lately. Off a few days then back at school, then off again.

I would agree that last night's vomit was probably just from a sensitive tummy though after too much food too soon.

Keep things as plain as you can within the limitations of what DD will accept. (If she needs squash, use as little as possible, same with butter etc)

Well she wasn't sick again and she does seem quite perky this morning. Honestly it's just the worst isn't it. I've got 4 children between the ages of 14 months and 7 years and I thought I'd be a bit better dealing with, but if anything it's gotten worse. I'm going to try her with some toast now about 11am but will use a small bit of jam rather than butter. Really hoping this is the end of it now as I can't take anymore 😔

Oh dear, hope she's properly on the mend and no-one else catches it, it's so horrible.

My DC used to get very sensitive tummies to dairy after sick bugs, so I would avoid dairy as much as possible for a few days, and keep things as plain as possible where you can. But I always find my body seems to crave what it can stomach after a bug, so maybe she's the same?

I hope so too 😕 She's had a small piece of toast with jam and has ate that so will see how we go. I'm clueless now what to do in regards to food. Do I leave it for the rest of the day and give her another piece this evening and leave the food at that? What would you do? She's drinking thankfully so fluids don't seem to be an issue. I just don't want to push it again and be back to square one.
