Enlarged Tonsils/Adenoids - Sleep Study

We had first consultant appt with ENT last week for enlarged tonsils and disruptive sleep.

Consultant said her tonsils and adenoids were both very enlarged, likely to need to be removed, but wants to do a sleep study, hearing test and try a steroid spray for a month then reconvene following all the results.

She has very loud snoring, nasal speech, blocked nose, mouth breathing, low quality of sleep, poor hearing, nightmare to wake on a morning, and stops breathing very occasionally in her sleep, she is 5.

The sleep study is on Wednesday and we're able to do it at home by going to collect the machine from hospital.

Does anyone have any tips or experience of going through similar, did the sleep study show anything? How long did you wait for surgery (UK NHS)? Was surgery worth it?

I am going through the exact same thing with my DS who is 3. Very large tonsils. We had a sleep study done at home 2 weeks ago and I am still awaiting the results, so can’t comment on that im afraid. He also has a hearing test next month which we waited quite a while for. No idea how long waiting lists are like.
the sleep study itself was fine, he kept the ‘plaster’ on his foot the whole night.

DS1 didn't need the sleep study. We were told the wait for an appointment would be 6-12 months, but actually there was a cancellation and he had it done a few weeks later. The surgery was definitely, definitely worth it. DS1 was almost instantly a different child. I'd always thought he was a bit lazy, but his energy shot up pretty much immediately so I think he must have been chronically tired. He also got over colds much quicker rather than holding onto a cough for months. He had a hearing test at the initial appointment which showed hearing loss, but he was clear in the follow up after the operation. I'm honestly not sure if that's connected though - I assumed it was a coincidence, but maybe not.

This is really interesting thank you, my daughter sounds very similar, seen as laid back and lazy at times. Yes winter is just prolonged colds/stuffiness with her, I used to think it was back to back illness but actually it could just be everything's a bit blocked in there and not clearing down as it should. She did fail her first hearing test at school but passed the second one too. Her hearing gets really bad at times but then other times it's fine, usually a few good weeks then a couple bad over the winter. I definitely think the surgery will be worth it if this is something that could affect her into adulthood. I can't help but think it will be Sod's Law she'll pass the hearing test and sleep study but the consultant did say a big 'wow' when he saw her tonsils and he said there's pressure pushing her ear drum from behind so there must be something going on in there, she snores so loud.

Also thank you @earyweary good to know that it stayed attached with no drama, hopefully you get some appointments through soon. Consultant said last week we will have a telephone appt in 1 month to discuss all the findings so I assume he is confident we will get a hearing test appt in that time. We've been using a steroid spray for a week at night but the snoring etc has been just as bad.
