Is it normal for babies to have hysterical crying episodes for 30 mins?

I have an 8 month old that's usually very happy but hates naps. She often starts crying as soon as she's lain down. Sometimes she gets very angry and cries for 10-30mins before dozing off, despite my best effort to console her. Everyone says I'm to blame for not being able to soothe her within a few mins. I almost had a cps call about me because of her crying before nap time. I'm not sure what to do. I'm afraid I'll have my daughter taken away and feel extremely depressed.

Mine would never fall asleep happily if I tried to lie them down. They both slept on me for naps until about 11 months old. Then we had a floor bed and they fed to sleep and then I rolled away. I'd say it's very normal for your baby to not want to just go to sleep.

She used to sleep if I lay next to her and stroked her face but now it doesn't work. She's very stubborn. Nothing seems to work anymore. Even walks which used to work consistently are have only a 30% success rate now.

Ds never fell asleep without a big roar first, just the way some children are.

You are not to blame, please ignore these comments. My eldest was exactly the same and as long as you are comforting them through it there is no harm that they are crying like this. My eldest was(is) very high needs. Shes 5 now and very anxious, fidgety and unsettled in general day to day life. Her sleep is fine now though 😅

They tell me if I can't stop her from crying within a couple minutes it's my fault and she'll get a hernia or otherwise hurt herself. If she cries at all they say it's my fault. I've been completely alienated by everyone.

Who are ‘they‘ and who was going to call ‘Cps’ ?

Who is "they" and "everyone" OP?

WonderingWanda · 09/10/2024 20:52

Mine never went to sleep like that. In fact even if I got them to sleep with cuddles or rocking in a pram as soon as I stopped or out them down they would start bawling again. I just gave up putting them down until they were older. Who is 'they' who are telling you that you should be able to soothe them?

My partner and his family. The nanny he hired assumed I was beating my child because she was crying over nap time. I guess everyone in his homeland thinks the same. They attack me for feeding her foods that are ok according to the British/Irish/American (where I'm from) guidelines but don't match the Croatian (where they're from) guidelines and a great many things. The nanny was going to call until my partner talked me out of it. He later berated me for her false accusations.
