Baby eczema recommendations!

Can anyone recommend anything to use on this patch of eczema on my boys face?! Whatever we're given to use clears it up for about a week and then it just comes back. The last course was hydrocortisone ointment twice a day and covering him in zeroderm. That worked really well. We were told not to use the hydrocortisone for longer than a week so that took us to Friday, when it flared up again. He had a swimming lesson on Thursday and I think it's the chlorine that's upset it as we haven't done anything any different. But nothing seems to be helping it, it's just getting worse! I will be taking him back to the doctor's on Tuesday (were out for the day tomorrow) but wondered if there was anything you could recommend to try in the meantime. He's already had antibiotics for impetigo and I'm really hoping it's not coming back!

We're getting desperate for it to just go now! It must be so itchy as he's constantly trying to rub it which makes it worse!

Hey, didn’t want to read and run! I’ve stripped back on all medical creams as I think they were exacerbating little one’s eczema patches (perhaps a reaction to paraffin?) we use Weleda White Mallow, seems to be very soothing. Might be worth a try! Boots stock it and Holland and Barrett x

Balmonds skin salvation is a game changer, available on amazon and natural.

My little one eczema got well controlled only after bi weekly strong steroids off GP which we continue now to prevent ant flair ups 😎 none over the counter cream was helping at all. Nor hydrocortisone. When it's well controlled now we can use anything and everything.

I’ve heard really good things about this too!

We use the aveeno balm (think it's the one for extra itchy skin or something) on patches like this but around my DSs mouth it doesn't really work, I think because it gets wet especially when he's teething. I actually put a barrier cream on it for a few days and it calmed right down and then just used the aveeno as normal and that sorted it for us! Good that you're going back for another GP look though.

Thanks all 😊

It really flared after his swimming lesson last week but have used hydrocortisone ointment on the worse patches and the eczema child's farm moisturiser and it's really clearing up well 😁

We think we may have to stop swimming lessons for a few months until he's not quite as sensitive 🤔

Well....little man has cut his 2 top teeth this week and I don't know if it's a coincidence or not but it's come back with a vengeance and now it looks terrible! He's rubbed at it that much (presumably in the night as we're trying to stop him as much as we can when we see him doing it) that he's now rubbed a patch raw on his cheek!

We're on holiday at the minute but going home tomorrow but I have a feeling it will be back to the doctor's on Monday.

It's upsetting me so much just looking at him. I feel like a terrible mum that it's ended up looking like this now 😭😭

I'll be trying salcura bioskin when we get home tomorrow and maybe get some of the other things you guys have recommended.

I'm willing to try anything at this point!

@tangobravo do you have any recommendations for a good barrier cream?
I have been using Aveeno balm on my daughter and it was working well but she now has a few patches around her mouth/neck due to teething and the Aveeno cream isn't really making any difference. Thanks for your help!

@GeorgesMummy5224 - sorry for highjacking your thread with my question on barrier cream!

Sorry I don't have any advice to offer you apart from to say that I feel your pain! You are definitely not a terrible mum, but it so hard when you feel helpless and unable to help them!

I think I am going to give Balmonds skin salvation a try to see if that helps and take my daughter to the GP again on Monday.

We swear by Balmond's. Eldest had terrible eczema- tried everything; her skin used to bleed from it. We started using this- brilliant. 1st we bought the green stuff- it's like a wax and it takes a while to get it on the skin; after about 2 weeks, it really started to clear the soreness up.

We now use the 'everyday' cream to maintain skin.

Don't worry about it 😊

I've just ordered some balmonds to arrive for when we get home tomorrow. We'll see what that does. I've been putting sudocrem on this afternoon and it looks to have calmed down a bit but I've just put him to bed and can see him on the camera rubbing his face already 😞 feel like I'm fighting a losing battle 😭

Epaderm cream from Amazon / most pharmacies. Sorted my child out quickly & was recommended by the doctor.

it’s pretty cheap so we have bottles everywhere just in case.

Recommendation is also to avoid water / baths etc as they make it worse which is tricky on the face.

I put epaderm on mine’s face most evenings in winter just as a preventative

good luck
