Baby fell off sofa

My other half sat our 11 month old on the sofa and asked me to keep an eye on him (he's just learnt to crawl) I took his bib off him, swiveled round to put the bib on the side and he fell off the sofa and landed on the floor and bumped the back of his head on the floor. He cried real tears but stopped after I got a nosiy toy out for him after about 2 minutes. I feel absolutely terrible, I didn't even move my feet and I can't believe it happened. Do I need to take him to the hospital to he checked out? Please don't scold me I feel like the worst mum in the world already :(

We’ve all done it op, it happens. You know now not to take your eyes off him against if he’s in the sofa. Do you have a hard floor and is it a high sofa? If in any doubt phone 111 for advice.

Did he fall onto carpet or a hard floor? I’m assuming your sofa isn’t massively high. Is there a mark on his head? I’d say if he didn’t lose consciousness, not bleeding and there isn’t swelling or anything unusual then just keep an eye on him today.
These things happen, try not to beat yourself up about it

If it’s any reassurance when my youngest son was 6 weeks old I fell asleep on the sofa with him on my chest . I woke up and panicked as no baby ! He had slid off the sofa onto the floor and was fast asleep on his hands and knees . Luckily we had carpet but he suffered no ill effects.

We all still laugh about the time DS wriggled (he wasn’t yet crawling) off the bed when we were visiting my grandmother. He grew up to be a strong, healthy, intelligent person. We’ve all done it. Babies are tougher than they look.

There's good advice here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-injury-and-concussion/

Plus if you google "head injury advice sheet" you might find the one for your local hospital.

Mine are much older than yours now but ds2 particularly was a bugger for banging his head. First time he ran full pelt into a door frame, came up with a massive forehead lump that had a dent down the middle (leading to the affectionate nickname of "butt face" Grin). Took him to hospital on 111 advice (he couldn't talk so we weren't able to tell them if he recognised us, plus he was sleepy but it happened at bedtime..). Only other times we took him were when there was bleeding/obvious injury. Each time they told us that if a lump comes up almost immediately likelihood is they're fine.

They always said to go in/call for advice if concerned though, they'd much rather see a kid that didn't need to be seen than miss one that did.

It's way more stressful for the parents imo! Hope you're bothe feeling better soon Flowers

He fell onto carpet but not fluffy carpet. Sofa is about knee high. No mark on his head and he didn't black out or anything. He seems ok but just worrying.

It happens, mine rolled off the bed, twice. Babies are also more resilient than you think!

Anyone who tells you their child never fell off the sofa or bed etc is probably misremembering.

My friend arrived home with her new-born. Picked them tenderly out of the car to carry them inside, slipped on ice and her precious new-born flew over her shoulder and landed on the concrete floor.
She's the opposite of a fusser, but she was properly hysterical. Baby was absolutely fine - not even bruised.
