Itchy bottom not worms?

Hello
I wonder if you can help me I have a seven-year-old boy that has had an itchy bottom for the last few weeks. I’ve kept checking and no sign of worms. His bottom doesn’t look red no rash but he still itches. I thought it was too tight pants then too loose pants, on Monday I gave him the worm medication just in case but I can’t see any sign of them at all in his poo or in his bottom. It doesn’t necessarily itch his bottom at night. It’s during the day. I thought it might be habit I went to the pharmacy and they gave me Talc powder which hasn’t helped. I wonder if any of you have any ideas , he’s not crying or distressed about it or itching like a crazy person It kind of seems like a habit but he’s saying it is around his anus.
Any advice would be welcome
thank you x

You need to consider whether the cause could be washing powder, fabric softner, soap/ shampoo/ shower gel/ bubble bath. And do the full treatment for worms anyway.

And make sure he is wiping properly after pooing. Use a cleansing product that can be put on toilet paper so it can be flushed.

How are his bowel movements? If a bit hard it can be a bit sore, which may make it itchy

It could still be worms. When my girls had them I didn't actually see anything. I gave them the medication. Then I washed all the bed linings and towels on 60 and thoroughly cleaned all surfaces and vacuumed everything including the mattresses because you can re infect yourself with the eggs. They need to wear pants and PJs to bed. Then make sure you wash and sudocream there bum in the morning. The worms come out in the night and lay eggs and that's what causes the itch. You need to do the worming again in a week or two.

Treat for worms anyway.
Flushable wipes are your friend (though I still wouldn’t flush them).

OK thanks so much, I gave him the worm treatment on Monday, so will give it to him again this Monday. And I’ll wash all bed stuff etc. I was putting the lavender Epsom salts in his bath so I wonder whether that irritated it. And he does suffer from constipation so that could also be a factor, not wiping himself properly.
thanks so much for your response hopefully I will get to the bottom of it! X

Salts can be very drying. Try oat bath instead.
