Hi everyone ,

I have just noticed some spot like pimples on baby's face so I checked him over and noticed some more on stomach / back a few on arms and legs. I'm particularly worried about meningitis as he had his 1 year injections a week ago and was told by the nurse this can happen...

He seems well in himself he feels a little hot to touch should I ring out of hours? These kind of things make me panic , literally freak the f out, any advice?

some (esp bottom right picture) look a little like petechaie to me - non blanching? The tiny dot ones? If so you need to take him in asap I’m afraid. More than likely a vaccine reaction but still need checked to be safe.x

I feel your pain, dd (now 8) is really prone to viral rashes and there’s always a little voice inside my head fretting away. She’s had rashes that questionably don’t really blanch….

anyway, ring 111 and see if they will organise an out of hours dr appt to get him checked over visually. That’s how 111 works by me anyway but your mileage may vary.

take comfort in the fact that your ds isn’t noticeably ill. That’s a really good sign but absolutely get him checked over. The last dr who assessed DD’s rash said I absolutely did the right thing and it was worthy of assessment but that he’d also never seen a child with a rash of concern that wasn’t also noticeably unwell.

Could be a reaction to the MMR as a measles type rash can appear 7-11 days after the vaccine

Common side effects are usually mild and only last 2 to 3 days, they include:

  • a raised, blotchy rash (similar to a measles rash), feeling unwell and a high temperature around 7 to 11 days after the vaccination
  • swollen glands around the cheeks, neck and jaw and aching in your joints (similar to a mild form of mumps) around 2 to 3 weeks after the vaccination
