Daughter has sprouted a third nipple

My daughter has got a third nipple according to the dr. It does look very nipple like although it doesn’t have a centre and is directly under the normal nipple. However, it seems to have appeared out of nowhere this last year.

interested to know if it’s a concern or if it’ll grow more. It doesn’t hurt her but she’s embarrassed by it. You wouldn’t see if it if she wore a crop top but you would if she had on a bra which she doesn’t wear yet because she’s only 8.

do they remove them on children if it’s just cosmetic? Thanks

What did the doctor say when you spoke to them about it?

i went about something else with her and while I was there I asked him about it. He was really unconcerned and said it must have been there from birth and I hadn’t noticed it. He could be right but I really think I would have. He said it was a supernumerary nipple. She’s just become quite self conscious of it and wants it removed although I’ve reassured it’s unlikely anyone will see it. Just not sure what to make of it really and if it’ll grow more when she hits puberty

I (male) have four nipples. The "spare" ones (or are they all spare for us men?) are much less pronounced. They are entirely benign.

Thanks. Did you always have them from birth? I’m pretty sure hers is benign and nothing to worry about but just hoping it doesn’t get bigger as she gets older. Just odd how it seems to have just appeared

I've definitely seen a slide photo of a person with a third nipple when I was in a lecture at university, but it was a geology lecture, so they didn't tell me anything very useful about it. Sorry about that.

The thing I did learn from the slide was that the lady in the picture had proper breast development in the normal two places, and the other nipple was just a tiny flat thing like a man's nipple, with really very little to it. So I think that with clothes on, your daughter will always look as though she just had normal breast development and it will only be when she has her clothes that the third will be visible.

I just did a quick google and apparently the third nipple can be removed very quickly under local anaesthetic if she would prefer to get rid of it. That might actually be a good option if it is concerning her. I've had a small skin thing removed under local anaesthetic and it was really no trouble at all.

Oh bless her. Not the same but I have multiple moles that I've always thought unsightly. I was actually really happy when had a couple removed as were precancerous and disappointed the most obvious one was fine and they didn't remove it too. I did think about paying private to have a few removed but it's a slippery slope if then want something else done and then something else I'm sure. The scar sits in my under boob now and can't be seen now I'm past my pert 20s. Maybe hers will get hidden by her boob at puberty.

I personally would take the approach that everyone has something about their body they want changed and these things never bother the people around them as much as it bothers the person who has it.

I first noticed them when I was about 11. But (and I'm not being funny) I am stunningly unobservant... I wish your daughter well!

Thanks all.
