Looking for advice
She's been crying loads today and have noticed these? Not sure if it's related but no clue what they are. Haven't had any socks on and not indents of anything, she's 4 months and only on 1 foot. Can't see any spots on hands or mouth for HFM

I have very similar, after many GP visits it was diagnosed as excema. Are there ever pustules or "discs" that flake off?

I don't respond to steroid creams (and not sure if babies can have them) but an emollient cream works well for me.

If it reassures you I never have any pain or itching, it's basically cosmetic.

Hand foot and mouth?

EliflurtleAndTheInfiniteMadness · 10/09/2024 13:13

It doesn't look like eczema, not sayings it not it, but that would be a very atypical presentation. I'd think hand foot and mouth. When mine had it youngest had it mostly on a foot and I could barley see one on the roof of his mouth. Another a bit on their hand only. It was a very mild case, not lots of spots, but doctor confirmed that's what they had.

Can I ask what you did to help this? As she's so unsettled and crying most of the day :(

Hydrocortisone cream and paracetamol, but mine were older. Not sure if the Hydrocortisone cream is fine for babies. I'd ask a pharmacist if there's anything that treats itching that's safe to use on a 4 month old. It's tough at that age, there isn't a lot you can use.

It does look like hand foot and mouth, but there is a form of eczema called herpeticum that presents very similar to HFM. Have you been near anyone who suffers with coldsores?

I would speak to a GP and get it checked.

I have been using that for her bottom for thrush anyway so assume it'll be ok to put a thin layer on the foot!

DD had this - it was eczema.

Dd has severe eczema and has had herpeticum on several occasions.

She has suffered from being 8 weeks old. She is 11 now and has been on quite a severe treatment for the last 5 years due to just how severe hers presents. But it does mean I have done a huge amount of research and am quite educated abiut the varying types, treatments abd triggers!
