Dd will say a sentance, then straight after will say it again, lips mimicking what she has just said. It doesn’t happen all of the time. Just randomly started. She got very upset when i asked her if she knew she was doing it, so never mentioned it again. However She came home from school one day crying saying her friends asked her why she was doing it. Spoke with the school recently who mentioned possibly echolalia,, unsure ??

My son does this too - I believe it is Palilalia (similar to echolalia). He doesn't do it that frequently so it's not something I've ever sought help for. I believe it's more common in ND people and he is diagnosed ASD.

The only reason i mentioned it to school was, she has always been an ‘easily distracted’ child, showing signs of dyslexia(school are supporting with this) however advising that she is not. Lacks in confidence & can be anxious (trying to figure out if the anxiety is what sets of the mimicking words) I suppose i just don’t want to not say something for her to be struggling at school and not having the support.

My son also does this and he is diagnosed autism, I asked him gently if he knew he was doing it and it seems he wasn't aware of it. He also had echolalia until he was around 3.5yrs old but that seemed to disappear the older he got. He was diagnosed at 4yrs old so quite young.

My 6 year old daughter does this, also autistic
