I’m so tired now and after 4 trips to GP and one to hospital I’m none the wiser and getting more and more worried.
DD9 started with diahhrea nearly 3 weeks ago. No vomiting. Still has appetite. Then came sore tummy which has been on and off and sometimes seems linked to diahhrea but not always. It wakes her from sleep so I know it’s not just an “anxious” tummy. It went on for so long GP referred us to hospital where they took bloods and stool sample but all have come back normal 🤷‍♀️GP now suggesting it’s psychological but she’s still actively having diahhrea 3 times a day and a sore tummy and is so
tired being up in the night with it. She’s also lost weight which isn’t surprising. what on Earth could it be? She cries going to school now saying she hates having a sore tummy all day ☹️but I can’t keep her home just with a sore tummy that comes and goes as she’s fine in between and I don’t want her to think every time her tummy hurts she can stay home
or she’ll never go back! I kept her home the first week but once it was clear it wasn’t infectious I sent her back but she’s yawning all day. I’m at a loss. Drs don’t seem interested as her bloods are fine, coeliac screen fine, stool sample fine and tummy is soft. Please help ☹️what should/ could I do next? I’m exhausted being up with her twice a night with her in the night and so I can’t imagine how she is feeling. She keeps asking me to take it away ☹️I feel so helpless.

Can children have IBS?

Twilightbeforedark · 04/09/2024 13:05

I don’t know? No one has mentioned that and it came on so suddenly, 3 weeks ago she was totally fine 🤷‍♀️

No idea on diagnosis but I don’t think you should accept ‘psychological’. As her mum, you know her. Call the GP again, explain that she is at risk of missing days in school, is waking at night, symptoms aren't improving and you’d like another appointment and opinion ASAP.

I would recommend a private allergy blood test, make sure it’s IGE and some people like intolerance testing (IGG) but the data less supported.

Your allergies change as you hit major hormone changes (puberty, menopause). I had no allergies as a child but it all changed at puberty and pregnancies.

Then you have ruled out food issues. They take 1-2 weeks to turn around so quick.

If she’s struggling with bloating, I would asked if you could be referred for an ultrasound.

Thank you, I’ll try calling them again. I definitely don’t think it’s psychological- she’s a happy girl when it’s not hurting and it wakes her from sleep and I just don’t think that fits with psychological. She also has actual diahhrea and not “just” a sore tummy so surely that can’t be brushed off as psychological ☹️

I found out I had an allergy to wheat. I was having diarrhoea multiple times a day with awful
stomach pains and bloating, they checked me
for coeliac which it wasn’t. I was sleeping so much and very tired! GP was pretty useless so paid for private testing.

Anxiety can cause diarrhoea. Has she just changed year groups? Could the worry of that have made an impact?

silencebythelakeside · 04/09/2024 13:14

My DDs had diarrhea for about a week now, I assumed it was a bug but it's still going. She's also quite happy in herself. Apparently COVID is causing stomach upsets this year but I assume they've already tested for that?

Twilightbeforedark · 04/09/2024 13:15

She has changed up a year but has friends and does well in school so really don’t think it’s that. It literally came on as 10 bouts of diahhrea out the blue 3 weeks ago and that was before the tummy pain started. She is feeling anxious at school now as it keeps hurting but she’s not anxious about school itself.

They haven’t actually checked for covid but she’s literally symptom free apart from the diahhrea/ sore tummy- no temp/ headache/ fever/ lack of appetite/ cough etc. am stumped!
