DS 11.5 height concern

Ds has always been between 9th and max 25 centile. A few times a little above.

He's gone into y7 (middle school) and come home feeling very small as so many have spurted over the summer. He probably noticed it more as he's with the y8s too. He's quite despondent.

We did measure him last year and it does seem as if he's only grown 3.5 cm in a year, though his feet have grown. He's just above the 9th centile.

We do need to get his asthma checked as I don't feel it's been that great this year as he's had so many coughs, but he's definitely not an extreme case in that regard. No hospital etc.

He doesn't want to see the gp though I may have a chat myself to just log it, and obviously get an asthma review.

Any other advice?

I was a very late developer and always v small. Now 5.2 and I was still growing quite late. We've reassured him as much as possible. I did develop hypothyroidism in late teens which may have affected my growth and puberty but he's not showing any signs of that.

That was my gut feeling, a slow before puberty and he's just due a GS.

it was DH who brought it to my attention, rather worried, but the added factor of the brown inhaler and iugr makes me think I need to probably log it with Gp and just monitor for 6 months as CrazyCatLady3000 suggested.

I fully appreciate there's not a huge amount that can be done; at the least though it might impact asthma meds.

Part and parcel of being a parent is worrying. Don't be alarmed if he suddenly grows huge amounts in a very short space of time though. I started panicking when my son did that!

he'd be so chuffed and dh would be more chilled 😂

He's started to sleep in till 8 given the chance for the last couple of months, which is unheard of for the child who is usually up at 6 am on the dot. Which to me indicates something may be happening.

DS2 was always sort of average height but when they were around 11-12 a lot of his friends started to grow and he didn't. He eventually crept up to 5ft by 14, by which time he had friends who were 6ft. He is now 16 and 5ft 9, he was quite late to puberty, which is hard when all of your friends are bigger .But they all grow eventually.

They do sleep more when going through a growth spurt because you only grow in your sleep so that's a positive thing I'd imagine
