Craniosacral therapy to treat glue ear in 2 year old

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience of craniosacral therapy for shifting glue ear?

My 2 year old has bilateral glue ear which SALT think is the reason for his speech delay/lack of clarity. But because he has no hearing loss then ENT won’t treat it and have discharged him (following NICE guidance). They say because there is no hearing loss then the glue ear is not the cause of his speech delay (allow SALT beg to differ!)

I’d like to try some alternative methods to shift the glue ear and have read about craniosacral therapy. Has anyone had any successes with this or is it a waste of time/money? He is too young to try otovent balloons.

Thank you!

Hi, I’ve just found your post and it really resonated with what’s going on with my almost 3 year old- can I please ask what the outcome was or whether you got a resolution? Hope all is well now.

@Forevertiredmam hi there, I didn’t ever go ahead with the craniosacral therapy but we ended up going private for grommets and it has helped his speech a lot.

Hi there, sorry I know this is an old thread but I'm going through the same thing! I was wondering how long you waited for it to resolve by itself before you went for the grommets? Or did you go straight for that?

@Bearlionfalcon Hi, his first hearing test that showed he had glue ear was in June 2024. We then had another two tests two months apart which showed he still had glue ear, the last one being November 2024 so we then opted for grommets in early 2025. The surgeon that did it said his ears were absolutely full and there was no way it would have cleared without intervention.

Thanks so much for replying to me @Pixienot - bless him, the poor boy. How was the surgery and how has he been getting on since? I feel we are headed that way to be honest as my son is really struggling with his hearing and it’s causing him a lot of frustration and weird behavior. But he’s only failed one hearing test so far so I’ve been told we need to wait three months in case it clears.
