Hello ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป

My daughter has a nasty case of tonsillitis - sheโ€™s in a tonne of pain alternating calpol & ibuprofen with difflam spray. Woke up this morning & she can just about open her mouth for a dummy (she only has them for sleep time)โ€ฆ would it be overkill to take her down to A&E to make sure she doesnโ€™t have something like quinsy? Iโ€™ve tried having a look in her mouth to see if thereโ€™s any obvious Massive swelling & sheโ€™s crying at that too.

Shes 2, started on antibiotics yesterday morning.

thanks.

If she's able to swallow water then given she's already on antibiotics personally I'd avoid A&E. If she can't drink/isn't peeing/has v high or v low temp then I'd take her.
Maybe phone 111 for advice/reassurance, or do you have a walk in nearby?

Mine went to OOH when the infection was causing him to stop eating and struggle to drink.
I found a straw helped and non dairy, ice lolly also was good to numb pain and get some liquid into him.
I would call ooh and see what they say. If you are in UK then with tomorrow a bank holiday they should have a service open.

Call 111. Theyโ€™ll give her an appointment if clinically indicated. Hope sheโ€™s better soon

My DD used to get tonsillitis a lot. I eventually realised that the fact she wasn't eating or drinking much as that hurt wasn't helping her recovery and also meant she was hangry. I used to give her fruit shoots and ice lollies. If the ice lollies numbed the pain enough for her to eat, then I've give her something soft like scrambled egg, porridge, mushed banana or yogurt.
