Raised temperature for over a week

DD has had an intermittent raised temperature for the past 9 days. It's been up and down between 37.5 and 38.4. No other symptoms of note apart from occasionally reduced appetite and mild sore throat. There's literally nothing to see and no symptoms of infection anywhere. In between temperature peaks she's perfectly happy, running around, eating and drinking well etc.

If I take her to see a doctor I'm confident they'll send us away as there's nothing to see.

Does anyone else's DC get raised temperatures when there's not much other sign of illness?

In my experience a GP like to see a child in these circumstances even if it doesn't appear to be anything, just to give a once over check and be certain nothing is amiss.

Sometimes viruses can last a good couple weeks and cause these kind of symptoms.
Sometimes kids can have mild lingering infections that they are managing to 'semi' fight but not actually kill off and a round of antibiotics is needed.
Could be a mild urine or ear infection or a persistent virus.

You don't mention your DDs age, if we're talking toddler I'd probably be less concerned than say, an 8 year old.

One of my DC gets random unexplained high temps but short time scale.

Oops. DD is 7.

If we were at home and could see our own GP I would probably take her at this point.

However, we're away in another part of the country for the next 10 days so it would be a 111 job and seeing a doctor who doesn't know us at all. DD doesn't like doctors or any poking/prodding following a drawn out illness a few months ago which required a lot of tests and being looked at when she was in pain and feeling crap. Any unnecessary medical attention would be best avoided just at the moment. It's different with our own GP who has the whole picture and understands.

My child had exactly this end of July and we ended up getting her swabbed in the end (I’m like you- wait and see approach to viruses.

It turned out to be walking pneumonia (Mycoplasma pneumoniae) which is doing the rounds at the moment in the UK and is treated by a limited choice of antibiotics. Not as serious as the usual pneumonia but it does need to be treated.

She is still unwell- GP said it takes 4 weeks to properly recover. There was an outbreak in China a few months ago and it is spreading across Europe.

@WannabeMeeeeee Thanks for this info. I've looked this up and DD ticks some of the boxes. She's never had any cold/cough symptoms though.

If she still isn't right today I'll have her seen before the weekend.
